Fireworks as transfer deadline passes in Germany: Draxler to Wolfsburg, Januzaj to Dortmund

Draxler

One of the most in-demand young midfielders in the world is staying in the Bundesliga, while another promising talent is joining Germany’s top flight.

Julian Draxler is heading to Wolfsburg, while Adnan Januzaj is leaving Manchester United to pull on the No. 9 sweater of Borussia Dortmund.

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting to see whether Javier Hernandez seals his move to Bayer Leverkusen. “Chicharito” has been spotted around Bayer HQ.

Draxler, 21, has been a rumor mill fixture but stayed put at Schalke a bit longer than expected. Now some -- if not most -- of the big fee earned in the sale of Kevin De Bruyne to Manchester City is headed to Schalke.

Schalke boss Horst Heldt explains why he sold Draxler:

“There are two reasons for our decision to accept Wolfsburg’s offer: We will not be disclosing information about the transfer fee, but we can say that it is the biggest transfer we’ve received for a player at Schalke.

“Moreover, we have complied with Julian’s desire to move to another club.”

For the 20-year-old Januzaj, it’s a season’s loan to Dortmund, though it remains to be seen if he’ll break into the BVB lineup with any more regularity than he appeared for Manchester United. The German side is loaded with attacking threats.

Pleased to sign for Dortmund 😁 ! Looking forward to new season 👍⚽️ pic.twitter.com/dhEOhz45i5
