Manchester United beat Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield on Sunday, as Ruben Amorim got a marquee win and Liverpool lost a fourth game in a row in all competitions.
MORE — Arne Slot reaction | Ruben Amorim reaction
Arne Slot’s side had plenty of chances to score throughout, but United were ruthless as they scored early and late to secure back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time under Amorim and this feels like a big moment in his reign.
For Slot and Liverpool, they have now lost four games in a row in all competitions and there are huge question marks around the reigning PL champs and plenty of their star players, including Alexander Isak and Mohamed Salah.
Below are the Liverpool vs Manchester United player ratings in full, with marks out of 10 and analysis on who starred and who struggled.
Liverpool player ratings
Giorgi Mamardashvili: 6 — Beaten at his near post on Mbeumo’s goal and didn’t have much else to do but was brave saving with his feet in the first half. Could he have been quicker to get across on Maguire’s late winner?
Conor Bradley: 6 — Didn’t get much of a chance to get forward and looked rushed when he did. Did okay defensively.
Ibrahima Konate: 6 — Didn’t track Mbeumo and was too deep on United’s cirst goal. One fine pass through to Isak in the first half and some great covering in the second half. But then switched off crucially as Maguire headed home the late winner.
Virgil van Dijk: 5 — Looked shaky throughout and caught out of position on Mbeumo’s goal as he didn’t see him behind him. Too busy trying to cover for Kerkez and dragged out of position often.
Milos Kerkez: 4 — Another really poor defensive display. Cunha, Mbeumo and Diallo all buzzed around him and he couldn’t cope. Surely Andy Robertson has to start soon?
Ryan Gravenberch: 6 — Solid as ever but clearly still working through an injury and came off in the second half.
Alexis Mac Allister: 6 — Whacked on the head before Mbeumo’s goal and went down but play wasn’t stopped. A little overrun in midfield and couldn’t quite get the press right. Subbed off in second half.
Mohamed Salah: 4 — A really poor display, once again, by his very high standards. Could have finished on a few occasions but rushed his efforts and gave the ball away cheaply. Subbed off after United’s winner.
Dominik Szoboszlai: 6 — Didn’t impact the game as usual from midfield, but kept plugging away and then pushed to right back when Liverpool made a host of subs in the second half.
Cody Gakpo: 8 — Really good outing as he hit the woodwork three times before he finally scored to equalize. He was Liverpool’s most dangerous player and is in great form, but missed a sitter late on from close range to make it 2-2.
Alexander Isak: 4 — Had a big chance saved in the first half when clean through. Other than that, barely involved. Worrying start continues.
Substitutions
Curtis Jones on for Ryan Gravenberch (62'): 6 — Had plenty of touches on the ball and was heavily involved in Liverpool dominating late on.
Florian Wirtz on for Conor Bradley (62'): 6 — Played in a slightly deeper role but was heavily involved and did his best to turn things around.
Hugo Ekitike on for Alexis Mac Allister (62'): 7 — Lively off the bench and had shots, cut inside and should have started.
Federico Chiesa on for Isak (72'): 7 — Another big impact off the bench and got on assist on Gakpo’s goal.
Jeremie Frimpong on for Mohamed Salah (85'): 7 — Great cross for Gakpo as he should have equalized late on.
Manchester United player ratings
Senne Lammens: 8 — Made one huge save to deny Isak in the first half and looked solid and calm throughout. Just did all of the simple things well. It’s still early, but have United finally found their goalkeeper?
Matthijs de Ligt: 7 — Solid defensively and almost popped up with a goal from a header late on. His good start to the season continues.
Harry Maguire: 9 — A surprise starter but put in a great defensive display. The veteran was the hero as he headed home the winner in front of United’s fans. What a moment for him.
Luke Shaw: 7 — Solid and reliable at the back and he used all of his experience to keep Salah pretty quiet before being subbed off.
Amad Diallo: 7 — Nice ball to Mbeumo for United’s early goal and kept popping up in dangerous areas to bamboozle Kerkez and Van Dijk. Subbed off early in second half.
Casemiro: 6 — Dug deep and did the dirty work but only last 58 minutes after a busy international break. His experience is crucial to set the standards.
Bruno Fernandes: 9 — Pure quality. Set up the attack for the first goal and delivered a beautiful cross for the second. Should have scored an easy chance in the first half, and he was racing around everywhere. The captain set the tone.
Diogo Dalot: 7 — Tireless display down the left and right defensively and helped keep Salah quiet for a long time. Some great blocks and positioning.
Bryan Mbeumo: 9 — Took his goal so well and was a constant threat on the counter. Never stopped running and his positioning gave Liverpool’s defense so many problems.
Mason Mount: 7 — Clever positioning and buzzed around in midfield well.
Matheus Cunha: 8 — His experience and drive are so important and he dug deep late on to get United over the line.
Substitutions
Patrick Dorgu on for Amad Diallo (59'): 6 — Dug in to defend and did well.
Manuel Ugarte on for Casemiro (58'): 6 — Couldn’t stop Liverpool taking control of the game in midfield but some good blocks and tracking.

Leny Yoro on for Luke Shaw (85'): N/A
