Manchester United 0-0 Newcastle United - RECAP

Don’t let the scoreline deceive you, this was a very good game at Old Trafford. United started well and Wayne Rooney had a goal controversially disallowed, but Newcastle United hit the bar in the first half via Aleksandar Mitrovic. In the second half United piled on the pressure and Javier Hernandez was denied by Tim Krul, then Newcastle new boy Florian Thauvin went close. Three clean sheets to start the season for United, as the Magpies dug in for a good point on the road.

West Ham United 3-4 Bournemouth - RECAP

What. A. Game. Bournemouth raced into a 2-0 lead in the first half through Callum Wilson, but then the Hammers fought back to make it 2-2 via a Mark Noble penalty kick and Kouyate’s cool finish. Marc Pugh then restored Bournemouth’s lead with a fine goal, then Wilson was given the chance to score his hat trick from the penalty spot after Carl Jenkinson had fouled in the box and was sent off. Wilson scored to make it 4-2 and although Modibo Maigi made it 4-3 late on, Eddie Howe’s side hung on after some hairy moments to secure their first-ever PL win.

Crystal Palace 2-1 Aston Villa - RECAP

A slow burner in the sun at Selhurst Park as Crystal Palace took the lead through Scott Dann’s header but an own goal leveled things up in south London. Late on new signing Bakary Sako curled home past Brad Guzan to send the Palace fans wild and make it two wins from three for the Eagles to start the season.

Leicester City 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur - RECAP

An end-to-end encounter at the King Power Stadium which really burst into life at the death. Both teams traded plenty of chances but Spurs went ahead in the 80th minute when teenager Dele Alli scored his first PL goal after jumping off the bench. However moments later Leicester were level as Riyad Mahrez scored his fourth goal in three games to rescue a point. Brilliant entertainment.

Norwich City 1-1 Stoke City - RECAP

Another tight game at Carrow Road, as Norwich rallied from a goal down to grab a point. Mame Diouf gave Stoke the lead early on with a header, but Russell Martin scored his second in two games just before the half hour mark. Both teams pushed hard for the winner but went home happy with a point in a game which had a drinks break in each half as the sun beat down on Norfolk.

Sunderland 1-1 Swansea City - RECAP

Bafetimbi Gomis and Jermain Defoe traded eerily similar goals in each half to share the spoils at the Stadium of Light. In a slow burner that really got going in the second half, Swansea hit the crossbar through Andre Ayew and Jeremain Lens had a goal disallowed for being offside but it finished 1-1 as the Black Cats got their first points of the season, while Swansea remain unbeaten.
