The Orioles outrighted the right-hander off their 40-man roster and he’s decided to look for a gig elsewhere. Eshelman will surely have to settle for a minor league deal.

Eshelman has been booted from the Orioles’ 40-man roster after allowing a whopping 22 runs on 34 hits with an 11/10 K/BB ratio across 27 2/3 innings (nine appearances, six starts) this season. The 27-year-old righty will function as organizational pitching depth if he chooses to accept the outright assignment.

Thomas ends the year 0-3 with a 7.16 ERA to remain 11 wins behind Vaughn on the all-time victory list for Eshelmans. He figures to be one of the Orioles’ early cuts once the season concludes.

Eshelman isn’t fully stretched out and will probably only be able to go 2-3 innings, at most. In other words, expect to see plenty of relievers as the Orioles try to continue playing spoiler.

The right-hander came on to start the fourth inning in a bullpen game for the Orioles, and nearly worked through the sixth. The 27-year-old has been a disaster for most of his time with the O’s this season, compiling a 7.50 ERA and 1.71 WHIP over 32 2/3 innings.

The 27-year-old has been brutal at the major league level this season, posting an 8.02 ERA and 1.83 WHIP over 21 1/3 innings. Eshelman has not fared much better in the minors either with a 7.80 ERA over 30 frames with just 18 strikeouts. There is nothing to see here.

Eshelman was designated for assignment on Sunday and ultimately passed through waivers unclaimed. The 27-year-old right-hander had registered a brutal 8.02 ERA in 21 1/3 innings (five starts, one relief appearance) this season with the O’s.
