Betting the third game of the series between the Blue Jays and Red Sox

Vaughn Dalzell breaks down his favorite bet in the Toronto Blue Jays against Boston Red Sox series.

Blue Jays (-145) at Red Sox (+125): O/U 8.5

Boston has won two-straight versus Toronto and four overall, extending the Blue Jays losing streak to three consecutive games.

These teams are headed in different directions right now, but so are the starting pitchers. Alek Manoah and Nick Pivetta take the mound for Toronto and Boston, which should be a decisive factor in who wins.

Despite four-straight wins, Boston is the home underdog here and that’s because of Pivetta. Pivetta’s allowed 13 runs in the past 14 innings compared to Manoah who’s permitted two runs over the previous 12 innings.

The Red Sox scored 13 runs in this series and outlasted the Blue Jays’ bats (11 runs scored) through two games. I expect Manoah to limit Boston’s bats as he’s done in the past.

Manoah is 4-0 with a 1.46 ERA over six career starts against Boston. Manoah’s allowed five earned runs over 36 innings against the Red Sox with 33 strikeouts to eight walks. Toronto’s 4-2 in those six games and lost those two games by one run each.

I played Toronto on the ML at -145 odds and would go out to -160 for risking 1 unit. I like the pitching edge for the Blue Jays to end its three-game losing streak.

Pick: Blue Jays ML (Risk 1u)
