How to bet the 2023 NBA Three-Point Contest, Odds and Picks

Buddy Hield

Buddy Hield

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Vaughn Dalzell backs Buddy Hield in a field of Damian Lillard, Jayson Tatum, Tyler Herro, Lauri Markkanen and more!

NBA Three-Point Contest:

Damian Lillard (+425), Buddy Hield (+425), Jayson Tatum (+500), Tyler Herro (+550), Kevin Huerter (+550), Tyrese Haliburton (+600), Lauri Markkanen (+650), Julius Randle (+700)

The 2023 NBA Three-Point contest is packed with guards after Karl-Anthony Towns won last year. We have a few forwards in this year’s contest like Jayson Tatum, Lauri Markkanen and Julius Randle, but the guards are where the attention should be.

Damian Lillard and Buddy Hield are the favorites in the contest and have a combined 20.2 three-point attempts per game this year. Lillard has lost this event twice (2014, 2019) and they say the third times a charm, but I am not willing to bet on that.

Tatum placed third in 2021, shooting 38.6% from three that year. This season, Tatum is shooting 35.7%, so I am not interested in his odds either.

Hield won in Chicago during the 2020 Three-Point contest after losing in 2019. Out of the entire field this year, Hield owns the best three-point percentage (42.6%) and the best catch and shoot numbers.

Here is a breakdown of the shooters percentages and how many three-point attempts per game.

Buddy Hield: 42.6% and 9.0 3PTA

Lauri Markkanen: 41.2% and 7.4 3PTA

Tyrese Haliburton: 39.9% and 7.2 3PTA

Kevin Huerter: 39.2% and 6.9 3PTA

Anfernee Simons: 38% and 9.2 3PTA

Damian Lillard: 37.2% and 11.2 3PTA

Tyler Herro: 36.9% and 8.1 3PTA

Jayson Tatum: 35.8% and 9.3 3PTA

Hield leads the NBA with 230 made three-pointers this season and is the only player with over 200 makes this year.

Hield has 34 more made triples than Simons at No. 2 (196) and leads the league with 540 three-point attempts, one of four over 500 (Simons, Lillard, Tatum).

Markkanen and Hield lead the field with 6.5 catch and shoot three-pointers per game on 42.3% and 42.4% and 2.7 and 2.8 makes per game. Simon and Randle are the next two closest in attempts at 5.1 and 4.9 but 39.9% (Simon) and 33.6% (Randle).

I am rolling with Hield’s volume and the fact they he is often slept on as one of the sharpest shooters in the league. If I was to pick another player, I like the year that Markkanen is having and he’d be my favorite of the forwards over Tatum and Randle.

Markkanen also has the home court advantage in Utah, so maybe take Markkanen and Hield to meet in the Finals for another big money payout.

Pick: Buddy Hield (+425)
