Georgia Tech’s Josh Heath suspended
Georgia Tech enters this season without four starters, all of whom were the team’s top scorers. Through the first four games of the Josh Pastner era, the Yellow Jackets will have an entirely new starting five from a year ago.
On Saturday evening it was announced that senior guard Josh Heath would be suspended for the first four games of the 2016-17 season for a violation of team rules.
Heath averaged a mere 2.7 points per game, but was second in assists behind Marcus Georges-Hunt with 2.8 per contest. He started in 21 of Georgia Tech’s 34 games.
Over the summer, Travis Jorgenson elected to remain at Georgia Tech, but not as a member of the basketball team. He had started 27 of 30 games as a redshirt freshman during the 2014-15 campaign. Although his playing time went down this past year, he would have offered a veteran presence in the starting lineup during Heath’s suspension.
With that, the point guard duties will likely fall on freshman guard Justin Moore. The 6-foot-3 Moore was considered a three-star recruit by Rivals.
Heath will miss four games against Tennessee Tech, Southern, Ohio and Sam Houston State. He is eligible to rejoin the team and make his season debut on Nov. 26 against Tulane.
