With three of their top four scorers graduating Oral Roberts needed to make some additions if they’re to have a shot at approaching the 27 wins they picked up in 2011-12.
In junior college transfer Tramel White the Golden Eagles add a 6-2 guard who has the ability to make things happen offensively.
White, who played his sophomore season at Dodge City (KS) Community College, 14.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game for the Conquistadors in 2011-12.
“I’m excited,” White told the Lafayette Parish Daily Comet. “It’s like a dream finally coming true. I’m just happy I made it through to a place like this.”
White is a native of Lafayette Parish, Louisiana, and the opportunity to join a winning program that has to replace multiple key contributors was too good to pass up.
It was a great situation for me,” White said. “They are losing some seniors, so they needed guys to come in and go play right away. I’ll get a chance to help them go play in the tournament.”
Leading scorer Dominique Morrison moves on, as do forward Michael Craion and guard Roderick Pearson, Jr.
Those three combined to average 42.2 points per game last season for Oral Roberts, who won 27 games but fell short of their goal of an NCAA tournament bid.
Despite going 17-1 in the Summit League the Golden Eagles were bounced from the conference tournament, relegating them to the NIT where the lost to Nevada in the first round.
Oral Roberts will begin play in the Southland Conference next season.
