A year after being booted from the Florida football program, quarterback Cam Newton could be finding his way back to the SEC.
According to multiple reports, the top-ranked JUCO player in the country will take an official visit to Auburn this weekend.
Newton, who played at Blinn College in Texas this fall, is also considering Mississippi State and Oklahoma, with North Carolina and Arizona believed to have an outside shot at landing him. A decision on where he will play in 2010 could come as early as next week, and he’s expected to enroll in classes in January.
The Bulldogs would seem to have a good shot at landing Newton as their current head coach, Dan Mullen, was Florida’s offensive coordinator during the QB’s short time in Gainesville.
That time at UF ended, though, when Newton was arrested and charged with stealing a $1,700 laptop from a fellow student. He completed a pretrial intervention program for first-time offenders last week, and grand larceny charges were subsequently dropped.
