Benching a ‘big deal’ to Reesing

On Tuesday, Mark Mangino blamed the media for making “a big deal” out of his benching starting quarterback Todd Reesing in the fourth quarter of Kansas’ loss to Texas Tech.

If that is indeed the case, the head coach might want to clue his quarterback in on the situation.

According to Reesing, his coach still hasn’t talked to him about being sent to the pines in a game that was still winnable. And while Mangino seems to think it was no big deal, Reesing has a very different view of his removal.

“It was a big deal to me,” the quarterback said. “It is what it is. It’s above my pay grade. It’s his decision. (But) I’m still the starting quarterback here, there’s no doubt about that. This job is not up for grabs. I’m going to move forward.

“I guess you can take it for what it is. I don’t know if he was trying to send a message, or if he just wanted to let Kale play a little bit. I don’t have an explanation. It happened, it’s over, we’re moving forward.”
