Members of the Notre Dame football family past and present suffered a tremendous loss earlier Wednesday with the passing of a player from their last national title team.
According to multiple media outlets, former Irish linebacker Andre Jones died this morning after suffering a brain aneurysm. He was just 42 years old.
Jones played for the Irish from 1987-1990, including the ’88 title season, and then, following a brief career that included stops in both the NFL and CFL, became a player-agent.
One of Jones’ five surviving children is TJ Jones (pictured left, with his dad), a sophomore wide receiver for the Irish. Like his father did, TJ wears the No. 7 on his Irish jersey.
TJ’s uncle is NFL defensive lineman Phillip Daniels, who was represented in contract negotiations by the receiver’s father. Daniels sent out a tweet shortly after Jones’ passing on what he called “one of the toughest days of my life.”
In addition to his five children, Jones is survived by his wife Michelle.
Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to those impacted by Jones’ passing.
