Gators pushing Jenkins ‘to get him ready to play’

After missing two games due to a broken thumb, Jelani Jenkins returned for Florida’s huge “upset” win over LSU Saturday.

Unfortunately, the starting linebacker tweaked a hamstring in the game, initially leaving his availability for Vanderbilt this weekend somewhat up in the air. Three days ahead of that SEC game, however, optimism reigns when it comes to Jenkins taking the field.

Jenkins is listed as probable for the Commodores game, and defensive coordinator Dan Quinn said Wednesday that the program is doing everything it can to ensure the LB will indeed be available.

“We’re pushing Jelani as hard as we can to get him ready to play,” Quinn said. “We certainly need him to, so we’re kind of taking it day by day.”

Jenkins has started 26 games the past two-plus seasons for the Gators.
