Mississippi State and defensive coordinator Geoff Collins have agreed to a two-year, $1.2 million contract extension, the school announced Monday.
Over the weekend, a report surfaced that Mississippi State would sign Collins to a multi-year extension after his name was linked to the open Florida State defensive coordinator position. Collins only has one season as a defensive coordinator under his belt, but losing him would’ve meant Dan Mullen would’ve had to replace both his coordinators. Offensive coordinator Les Koenning left for a job at Texas earlier this month.
Under Collins, Mississippi State’s defense was solid, ranking 19th by F/+. In 2012, the Bulldogs’ defense ranked 64th by the same measure.
