Transplanted from the JUCO ranks to Kansas this past December, defensive end Chris Martin was considered one of the prize members of the Jayhawks’ 2013 class. Now, his future status with the team could be in jeopardy depending on the outcome of an off-the-field incident.
KUSports.com reports that Martin is one of three people -- the other two being former Kansas player Jeremiah Edwards and 28-year-old Joshua Edwards -- arrested today in connection to an armed robbery that took place earlier this month. All three were arrested for allegedly robbing cash and marijuana from victims at gunpoint at a house on May 13.
The trio was then booked into Douglas County Jail on charges of suspicion of aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and kidnapping.
“We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering facts,” Jayhawks coach Charlie Weis said in a statement. “The behavior described in these charges is not acceptable at the University of Kansas. When we are confident that we have enough information, we will act appropriately.”
Martin originally verbally committed to Notre Dame when Weis coached the Irish. However, after Weis was fired in 2009, Martin changed his commitment and eventually signed with Cal... before changing it again to favor Florida several months later. He eventually left Florida after being arrested for pot.
Jeremiah Edwards was a three-star member of KU’s 2010 class, but saw his career cut short because of a heart issue.
