Reports: Nick Martin joins Irish recruiting class

Nick Martin

With all the news surrounding Aaron Lynch, Ishaq Williams, and Michael Floyd’s decisions, the Irish coaching staff was out hustling and locked in another important recruit.

Various places across the internet are reporting that Nick Martin, younger brother of Irish starting left tackle Zack Martin, has flipped his pledge from Kentucky to Notre Dame.

Martin is the third commitment along the offensive line, joining Conor Hanratty and Matt Hegarty in the recruiting class. He had long been committed to Kentucky, but recently flipped his decision, joining his brother at tackle.

“His brother is there, and having to split the family up was going to be somewhat difficult,” high school coach Vince Lorenzano told “It was decided that he was going to go ahead and make that switch.”

Martin is the 20th commitment to the Irish’s recruiting class, filling up another seat on the bus as the Irish roster pushes capacity. He’s an important addition in a recruiting class low in numbers along the offensive line, and helps balance a thin 2010 recruiting class that only added Christian Lombard and Tate Nichols last year.

Martin has an impressive offer list, including Michigan, Stanford, Tennessee, UCLA and Iowa.
