You know what they say. Bros will be bros.
A little under two weeks after he was accused of tossing beer bottles from a balcony onto parked vehicles at an apartment complex, Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray appeared in court Wednesday for a July 4 jet ski incident.
From GoVolsXtra.com:According to Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officer Dewayne Williams, Bray was driving a Jet Ski with a woman passenger when he was observed by Williams “hot dogging” with another Jet Ski. Williams explained the term “hot dogging” as “almost like playing chicken” on Jet Skis.
The other Jet Ski tipped over spilling the unidentified occupants into the water. Bray then sped near the swimmers “spraying them with water,” according to Williams, who added “he was almost on top of them.”
Bray was facing a Class A misdemeanor for reckless operation of a personal watercraft and a Class C misdemeanor for failure to have a boating education certificate. Instead, Bray agreed to a plea bargain mandating he either make three public appearances at schools where to promote boater safety or make a PSA commercial.
Both incidents -- the bottle tossing and jet ski riding -- ended up being harmless, but Bray should consider himself fortunate. Duke wide receiver Blair Holliday is currently in the hospital for an Independence Day weekend jet ski accident, and was in critical condition for some time.
None of this means Bray is a bad teammate or leader on the field; it means he’s a college kid doing college kid things. But that’s where the similarities end. As the starting quarterback of a major college football program, Bray’s actions are going to be magnified.
As such, he needs to start using his head for more than remembering plays and formations.
