Saints placed CB Damian Swann on injured reserve with a core muscle injury, ending his season.
Swann missed a bunch of time as a 2015 rookie due to three concussions. This time, he’s dealing with some sort of sports hernia, groin, or hip issue after visiting with Dr. William Meyers in Philadelphia. Meyers is the go-to man for sports-hernia and core-muscle operations.

Saints waived CB Damian Swann, WR De’Quan Hampton, S Erik Harris, CB Elijah Mitchell and DT Justin Zimmer.
Swann sat out all of last season with a core injury and was concussed three times as a rookie in 2015. The Georgia alum has played just 228 NFL snaps.
  • FA Defensive Back #27
Saints rookie CB Damian Swann is expected to open the season as the nickel cornerback.
Swann is competing with underwhelming veteran Kyle Wilson for snaps. With CB Keenan Lewis on the shelf following hip surgery and S Jarius Byrd likely headed to the PUP with a knee injury, the Saints’ secondary will once again be a unit to target this season.
  • FA Defensive Back #27
Saints selected Georgia DB Damian Swann with the No. 167 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft.
Swann (6'0/189) was a playmaker in the Bulldogs’ secondary, piling up 10 career TFLs, four sacks, six forced fumbles, and eight INTs as a 40-game starter. He earned second-team All SEC as a senior. Swann proved to be a pedestrian athlete at the Combine, running 4.50 with a 33-inch vertical and 9-foot-10 broad jump. Competitive and physical, Swann’s best position may be free safety or slot corner.
  • FA Defensive Back #27
Saints CB Damian Swann is done for the season after suffering his third concussion of 2015.
The No. 167 overall pick has suffered the brain injuries despite playing only 195 snaps. Swann just turned 23 earlier this month, but he’ll likely give his NFL future some long thought this offseason.
  • FA Defensive Back #27
Saints CB Damian Swann is being evaluated for a concussion.
If it turns out he has a brain injury, it would be Swann’s third concussion since Week 5. He has played two games since the original injury and has suffered concussions in both. He should be shut down for the rest of the season.
  • FA Defensive Back #27
The Saints have ruled out CB Damian Swann (concussion) for Week 7.
They’ll also be without LCB Keenan Lewis (abdomen). Swann has been working as the Saints’ slot corner. Andrew Luck has monster upside against this defense.
  • FA Defensive Back #27
Saints CB Damian Swann was arrested for reckless driving in Athens, Georgia on March 18.
Swann was allegedly going 100 mph in a 65-mph zone. The police report said Swann was “driving 35 mph over the posted speed limit and was driving in complete disregard for the safety of his passenger and the motorist that he passed.” The misdemeanor can carry a sentence of up to 12 months, but is unlikely he sees any jail time. Swann’s future in the NFL is murky after he suffered three concussions last season.
  • FA Defensive Back #27
Saints CB Damian Dwann (concussion) isn’t expected to play Week 9 against the Titans.
Swann missed Weeks 6 and 7 with a concussion. He returned to play 53-of-73 snaps against the Giants in Week 8, but is back in the league’s concussion protocol. Consider Swann, the Saints’ slot corner, out indefinitely.
