He made it through a short rehab assignment without any issues though and is ready to rejoin the White Sox. He returns to a .250/.310/.453 slash line with three homers and seven RBI through his first 71 plate appearances. If he regains regular playing time, he remains an intriguing option in deeper mixed leagues.

Pereira was hitting well — .250/.310/.453 in 71 plate appearances — before being placed on the IL at the end of April. It’s possible he’ll be back in the near future and reclaim a platoon role (or perhaps more) from Derek Hill and Rikuu Nishida in the outfield.

It’s a bummer for Pereira, who was finally getting a chance to play regularly and was slashing .250/.310/.453 with three home runs and seven RBI in 71 plate appearances. He does have a nearly 30 percent strikeout rate, which is something that he needs to work to improve, but hopefully, this is not a long absence for the 25-year-old. Derek Hill is starting in right field and batting seventh in the first game without Pereira.

Benintendi had a couple of hits including a three-run homer on Thursday night, so it’s a bit surprising to see him out of the lineup against an opposing right-hander on Friday evening. Perhaps the White Sox know something that we don’t and expect a left-hander to work bulk innings in the game. Everson Pereira will slide up to the leadoff spot in his absence against what’s expected to be Miles Mikolas for the Nationals.

Everson Pereira belted a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning on Thursday, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a late charge from the Rays.

Pereira snapped a 2-2 tie as he clobbered a 1-2 sweeper from Kevin Kelly for a 401-foot (101.9 mph EV) solo shot to left. The 25-year-old also singled and drew a walk in the contest, finishing the day 2-for-3. He has been sizzling at the plate this young season, slashing .304/.360/.739 with three homers and five RBI in his first 25 plate appearances.

Pereira was participating in his first game back since suffering an ankle sprain at the beginning of April, and he made an immediate impact with a three-run shot of Shane McClanahan. The former Yankees’ prospect is now slugging .600 with a pair of homers in his limited action, and it’s worth noting that it’s never been a question of raw power with Pereira. Everything else? Remains to be seen.

Pereira is on the IL with a sprained ankle retroactive to Apr. 2, so he’ll be eligible to be activated tomorrow. That’s not going to happen, obviously, but Tuesday after the off day on Monday seems like a possibility. Tanner Murray will probably be sent down to make room.

The 24-year-old outfielder suffered the injury during Wednesday’s game against the Marlins. They White Sox tried to take it day-to-day but ultimately felt it was best to sit him down and let it heal rather than playing shorthanded any longer. Tanner Murray was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to take his place on the active roster.

The club hasn’t officially placed Ohtani on the paternity list as the 31-year-old superstar is expected to return to the club before the weekend is through. They’ll play shorthanded for a day or two while Ohtani is away.
