Josh Hader earned his fifth save of the season in Sunday’s 2-1 win over the Guardians, striking out two in a perfect ninth.

Hader has a 13-1 K/BB with five saves in eight innings on the year. He has given up just two hits, one of which was an opposite-field homer by Kevin McGonigle earlier this week. Hader was sidelined with shoulder and biceps issues for most of the first two months, but has been lights out since being activated. He’s a high-end fantasy closer from here on out.

Josh Hader got one out for a save Tuesday against the Nationals.

Using Hader for a third straight day wasn’t the plan. Alimber Santa opened the ninth with a 6-2 lead and gave up a homer and a single while getting two outs. The Astros went to Hader then, and the lefty allowed an infield single and a walk before striking out Dylan Crews to end the game. He’ll certainly be off Wednesday after this, so Bryan Abreu might wind up with a save chance.

Josh Hader struck out a pair in a scoreless inning to get a save against the Rays on Sunday.

Hader issued a leadoff walk, and then had no issue getting through the rest of the Rays’ lineup while picking up his ninth save. He’s been dominant since returning from the injured list, and this scoreless frame lowers his ERA to a miniscule 0.61 over his 15 frames.

Josh Hader struck out one batter in a scoreless ninth inning to pick up a win against the Rays on Saturday.

Hader took the mound with the game tied in the top of the ninth and worked around a walk, striking out one batter to keep the Rays off the board. The Astros would then walk it off in the bottom of the inning, giving Hader his third win of the season to go with eight saves, a 0.64 ERA, a 0.57 WHIP, and a 22/6 K/BB ratio across 14 innings.

Hader was summoned in the ninth inning to close out the game with a two-run lead against the Twins. He struck out two batters in a clean frame, shutting the door on Minnesota for his eighth save on eight tries this season. He’s allowed just one run with a 21/5 K/BB ratio across 13 innings.

Hader was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the final frame and required just 11 pitches (seven strikes) to extinguish any hope of a Tigers comeback. He got Spencer Torkelson to ground out, coaxed a fly ball from Matt Vierling and struck out pinch-hitter Jahmai Jones to end it.

Josh Hader worked a hitless ninth with a two-run lead for his sixth save Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

Hader walked Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with one out, but he followed that with strikeouts of Kazuma Okamoto and Daulton Varsho. Hader has allowed one run and three hits and struck out 16 in 10 innings since coming off the injured list. Since he also pitched Tuesday, he’ll surely be down Thursday, which could lead to a save chance for Bryan King or Enyel De Los Santos.

Hader’s three strikeouts helped close the door on Houston’s 4-2 victory. The left-hander has been sensational since coming off the injured list in early June. McGonigle’s homer was the first run he has given up since being activated. Hader now has an 11-to-1 K/BB this season while looking as dominant as ever.

Hader was summoned in the top of the ninth inning with a two-run lead against the Tigers. He worked around a leadoff hit, striking out the final batter to secure the win for Houston and convert his third save. The 32-year-old left-hander has been excellent since coming off the injured list, tossing six scoreless frames with eight strikeouts.

Bryan Abreu worked a scoreless ninth for his fifth save against the Royals on Saturday.

Josh Hader pitchd both Wednesday and Friday, so the Astros weren’t willing to go to him again tonight. That made Abreu the closer, and he worked around a Bobby Witt Jr. double for the save. Hader should get the ninth if there’s a save situation on Sunday.

Josh Hader pitched a clean inning to earn the save against the Royals on Friday.

Hader did well to shut the door here after the Astros scored nine runs in the first inning, but needed to use seven pitchers to finish off the Royals. He didn’t allow a baserunner despite needing 20 pitches and seeing six foul balls in a one, two, three inning. His fastball has held firm between 95 and 96 mph and his swing-and-miss stuff has thankfully been at his normal elite levels through five outings so far this season.

Troy was already a little hobbled after fouling a ball off his foot and then went crashing into the wall making a catch in the fifth. He’s probably day-to-day. Jorge Barrosa took over for him.
