Braden Montgomery and Randal Grichuk hit back-to-back homers for the White Sox in the ninth inning Wednesday to tie the game against Cade Smith and the Guardians.

The Guardians won in 10 anyway, but this was an impressive rally against a likely All-Star who had allowed just one homer all year. Montgomery’s homer was crushed 411 feet to center. He hit that ball 107 mph and also had a 104-mph sac fly and a 107-mph groundout today. He’s hitting .250 with two homers and five doubles in 14 games since being called up.

Montgomery led off the fifth inning with a base hit and was caught stealing second, his first steal attempt of the season. He then put the White Sox on the board with a base hit in the seventh, driving in a run to tie the game. Montgomery then bunted for a hit in the ninth to put the winning run on third before Jacob Gonzalez delivered the walk-off hit. The 23-year-old outfielder has been an everyday player since his debut, hitting .246/.302/.439 with two homers, 10 runs, and eight RBI across 63 plate appearances.

Montgomery homered in his MLB debut on June 9, but he hasn’t done so again. He has started in right field in all but one game since then, hitting fifth through seventh. Rookie hitters are notoriously difficult to depend on, but Chicago has been a top-10 offense in runs per game this season, which helps with counting stats. It’s worth giving him a long enough leash to flash his upside this summer. The White Sox have a six-game week coming up against the Guardians and Royals.

It’s not a bad idea to give the 23-year-old rookie a night off with star southpaw Tarik Skubal toeing the slab for the Tigers. Montgomery has hit just .194 (6-for-31) with a homer, four RBI and a 10/1 K/BB ratio over 32 plate appearances in his first eight games with the White Sox. Junior Perez will start in his place in right field and bat sixth for the White Sox on Friday evening in Motown.

It was always going to be difficult for Montgomery to follow up his magic debut from Tuesday where he hit a walk-off home run. He did a decent job though with two doubles – each hit at least 98 mph – and the first of which came off Chris Sale. He looks like an exciting young player who could hit his way into a big league role for the foreseeable future.

Montgomery also had an RBI single in the fourth, but obviously that’s not the headline. The 23-year-old came to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the tenth and the White Sox trailing by one, and he connected on his first MLB roundtripper to give Chicago the walk-off win. Montgomery is one of the best outfield prospects in the sport, and while fantasy managers have to be prepared for ups and downs from the outfielder in his rookie campaign, the talent is obvious. He’s absolutely worthy of roster consideration right now.
  • CWS Center Fielder #92
Montgomery will be making his MLB debut Tuesday against the Braves. The 12th pick of the 2023 draft, Montgomery was acquired in the Garret Crochet blockbuster, and the 23-year-old has a chance to be a contributor in several fantasy categories. He’s worth roster consideration for those who need the outfield help.

Matt Snyder of CBS Sports was the first to report the promotion, and it’s since been confirmed by every White Sox writer since. Montgomery is the 31st-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, and the 23-year-old hit .313/.429/.606 in 27 games at Double-A this season with six home runs and two steals before getting promoted to Triple-A, where he has hit .315/.417/.495 with four home runs, 32 runs scored, 19 RBI, and three steals in 29 games. He’s not on the 40-man roster, so the White Sox will need to make a few roster moves to call him up, but Montgomery could be added over guys like Henry Bolte and Ryan Waldschmidt if he were to be called up.

Montgomery is the 31st-ranked prospect in baseball, according to MLB Pipeline, and came to the White Sox from the Red Sox as part of the Garrett Crochet trade. The 23-year-old is hitting .313/.429/.606 in 27 games at Double-A this season with six home runs and two steals. He also has 32 strikeouts, which is a bit more than you’d like to see, but 21 walks will also help to counteract that a little bit. Montgomery is an advanced prospect and could debut for the White Sox towards the end of the season.

Montgomery has his first homer of the spring, and that’s already the second triple for one of the top hitting prospects in the Chicago system. There’s a chance that the 12th pick of the 2024 draft could join the White Sox in 2026, but a 2027 debut seems a little more realistic.

McGonigle has been sizzling-hot in the desert recently, batting .462 (6-for-13) with three homers and seven RBI over his last three games. The 21-year-old prodigy is batting .385/.494/.754 with five round-trippers and three steals across 17 games this fall. He’ll enter next season as one of the top prospects in the fantasy landscape and should reach Detroit at some point soon. Here’s the full lineup: McGonigle (SS), Braden Montgomery (CF), Max Anderson (3B), Jonny Farmelo (LF), Blake Mitchell (C), Tommy White (1B), Sam Antonacci (2B), Raudi Rodriguez (DH), Enrique Bradfield Jr. (RF) and Luis De Leon (P).

Jake Bauers hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the top of the seventh as the Brewers bested the Diamondbacks 3-2 on Sunday.

Bauers’ homer off left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez made it 2-1 in the seventh, and the Brewers added one more later in the inning before holding on to win. Bauers got the nod over Blake Perkins today, starting against a lefty for the 13th time in 29 chances this year. His 16 homers, 51 runs scored and 54 RBI are all career highs, though he still has fewer plate appearances this season (314) than he did in 2018 (388), 2019 (423) and 2024 (346). His .861 OPS is nearly 200 points better than his career mark of .672 from 2018-25.

Brandon Sproat yielded one run in four innings Sunday in his outing against the Diamondbacks.

Nothing came easy for Sproat today. He threw at least 19 pitches in all four of his innings, totaling 92 in all, while giving up five hits and walking three. It’s the eighth time in 15 starts that Sproat has failed to last five innings, though he did complete five in four of five starts while going 2-0 in June. His stuff and his strikeout rate have ticked up a bit as the season has gone along, and he’s pretty intriguing in fantasy leagues right now even with all of the quick hooks. He’ll face the Pirates in his final start of the first half.

Pitching with a one-run lead, Trevor Megill pitched a hitless ninth for his 13th save Sunday against the Diamondbacks.

Megill turned in his 12th consecutive scoreless appearance. Abner Uribe has remained very good as well, but Megill just isn’t opening the door for the Brewers to switch closers again.

Eduardo Rodriguez surrendered two runs in six-plus innings in a loss to the Brewers on Sunday.

Rodriguez kept the Brewers scoreless until a giving up a single and a homer to Jake Bauers to begin the seventh, ending his day at 102 pitches. One inning earlier, he gave up a 423-foot double to Jackson Chourio that likely would have been a homer in 29 ballparks. Other than that, Rodriguez was quite good, even though his velocity was down a tad. He struck out just three, but then, he’s averaging only four strikeouts per start on the season. He walked none for a second straight outing, which is nice from a guy who had a 10 percent walk rate previously. Rodriguez was named to his first All-Star team on Saturday. His peripherals suggest that he’s due to regress, but he’s 7-3 with a 2.25 ERA right now. He’ll likely face the Dodgers on Friday.

Ildemaro Vargas went 0-for-3 with a walk while starting a third straight game Sunday against the Brewers.

Vargas is still playing a fair amount despite having gone 13-for-99 in his last 37 games. Part of it is likely that he has timed his hits well; he’s driven in 15 runs despite recording just 17 total bases on those nine singles and four doubles. He’s still second on the D-backs with 46 RBI, even though he’s down to .261/.305/.402 following his scorching start.

Rafael Devers homered twice in a loss to the Rockies on Sunday.

Devers hit two of the Giants’ four homers, both off of Tanner Gordon. The 29-year-old slugger has now gone deep 18 times in 2026, and he’s driven 47 RBI over the first 89 games of the 2026 campaign. After a disastrous — at least per expectations — start to the season, Devers is starting to swing the bat at a level fantasy managers have grown accustomed to.

Kyle Karros hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth to give the Rockies a 7-6 win over the Giants on Sunday.

Karros turned a 6-4 deficit into a 7-6 lead with a three-run homer off Drew Smith, and it was clobbered an estimated 457 feet. The 23-year-old has been a relative brightspot for the Rockies, and after slashing an excellent .357/.444/.586 in June, he’s off to a nice start to the month of July.

Jordan Romano worked a scoreless ninth with two strikeouts to pick up a save against the Giants on Sunday.

It’s the fifth save of the season for Romano, but the first since he joined the Rockies. The 33-year-old struck out a pair and worked around a free pass to procure the save. It seems feasible that Romano could get more save chances for the lowly Rockies, but fantasy managers need to consider the team he plays for, the home park he’ll pitch in, and his complete lack of success the past few years before making a roster decision.

Tanner Gordon allowed five runs in five innings and still didn’t pick up a decision against the Giants on Sunday.

Despite allowing four homers, Gordon doesn’t qualify for a decision, thanks almost entirely to a bullpen meltdown from the Giants. The 28-year-old has allowed five runs in back-to-back starts, and his ERA is now a deserved 6.95 over the first half of the season. He’ll get a rematch against the Giants on Friday, with the start taking place in San Francisco. No matter where Gordon pitches, he shouldn’t be in a fantasy lineup.
