Blue Jays’ outfielder Jesús Sañchez sustained a right ankle sprain during Friday night’s battle against the Rangers.

Blue Jays’ skipper John Schneider told reporters after the game that X-rays returned negative for any fractures. It’s still unclear what grade ankle sprain Sañchez is dealing with, or how long he may be shelved for, so we’ll have to wait and see how he feels on Saturday.
What's next for Wild Card hopefuls Reds, Nationals
Dave Flemming, Kevin Frandsen and Sam LeCure share takeaways from the Nationals' sweep of the Reds, where Washington capped off a long run in emphatic fashion, with Cincinnati facing an "uphill battle" moving forward.

Rays sent RHP Steven Wilson outright to Triple-A Durham.

Wilson was designated for assignment after being activated from the 60-day injured list on Thursday, but he passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra bullpen depth for the Rays. He should get an opportunity with the Rays before the summer is through.

Taylor Walls (back) returned to the Rays’ starting lineup for Sunday’s tilt against the Mariners.

Walls was a late scratch from Saturday’s lineup due to lower back tightness, but he’s feeling much improved after an off day. The 30-year-old is back in there at shortstop and batting ninth against Mariners’ right-hander Emerson Hancock on Sunday afternoon in Seattle.

Joe Musgrove will make his next minor league rehab start on Sunday at Triple-A El Paso.

The 33-year-old right-hander continues to progress in his recovery from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery. He threw 39 pitches his last time out at Single-A Lake Elsinore on Tuesday, so anticipate him throwing around 50-60 pitches this time out. Barring any setbacks, he could be ready to join the Padres’ rotation at the end of August.

Rays recalled RHP Michael Grove from Triple-A Durham.

With Griffin Jax (elbow) landing on the injured list on Sunday, Grove will provide a fresh arm to the Rays’ bullpen that’s capable of working multiple innings. He can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Brewers designated LHP Drew Rom for assignment.

The Brewers needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster for the addition of Ji Hwan Bae on Sunday and unfortunately Rom drew the short straw this time. It’s possible that the 26-year-old southpaw could attract interest on waivers.

Brewers selected the contract of INF Ji Hwan Bae from Triple-A Nashville.

On the same day that he inks a minor league contract with the Brewers, Bae gets promoted to join the big league club with shortstop Cooper Pratt (hamstring) landing on the injured list. His versatility and speed should allow Bae to fit in perfectly with what the Brewers like to do, making him an intriguing speed option in NL-only or deeper mixed league formats when he’s in the lineup.

We still haven’t received word on the result from Pratt’s MRI so we don’t know how serious the strain is, but he’ll miss a couple of weeks at a minumim while recovering. Ji Hwan Bae was promoted from Triple-A Nashville to take his place on the active roster.

    Tigers released RHP Scott Effross.

The 32-year-old right-hander had been stationed at Triple-A Toledo where he posted a 4.46 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and a 26/9 K/BB ratio over 36 1/3 innings. He shouldn’t have any difficulty latching on elsewhere on a minor league pact.
