The Blue Jays are calling up Sean Keys from Triple-A Buffalo, says MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson.

Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith says the move will officially happen Saturday. Keys has been terrific in hitting .284/.409/.619 between Double- and Triple-A this season, but it will be interesting to see how the Jays try to use him. He’s experienced at both third and first, though he’s mostly played first since moving up to Triple-A. He hasn’t played any other positions in games. The Jays probably wouldn’t promote him unless they intended to start him against most righties. Perhaps they’ll give George Springer or Kazuma Okamoto some outfield time.
Korn Ferry document could shake up Flores case
Mike Florio explores recent revelations surrounding the search firm Korn Ferry and its role in providing documents to Brian Flores's lawyer, ones that could potentially include a "smoking gun" piece of evidence.

Keys went 6-for-36 with one homer and a 13/1 K/BB in his 12 appearances with the Blue Jays. He remains a nice corner infield prospect, but odds are that he’s not going to get a real chance to help until next year.

Okamoto has been one of the few bright spots in a mostly nightmarish campaign for the Blue Jays. It’s his first off day since June 30. It’ll be rookie Sean Keys handling the hot corner in his place.
  • TOR Designated Hitter #4
The Blue Jays have been careful to mix in off days for Springer in an effort to keep him healthy for the remainder of the season. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will serve as the club’s designated hitter in his absence while Sean Keys draws a start at first base and will bat sixth against White Sox’ right-hander Sean Burke on Sunday afternoon in Toronto.
  • TOR Designated Hitter #4
Springer missed six straight games over the past week and a half for unspecified reasons before returning to action on Wednesday. This appears to be just a routine day off. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will function as the team’s designated hitter on Sunday while Sean Keys draws a start at first base and will bat seventh against Padres’ right-hander German Marquez.
  • TOR Designated Hitter #4
The Blue Jays continue to struggle offensively and they’re without Springer in the lineup for a sixth consecutive contest. The 36-year-old veteran was activated prior to Monday’s series opener, but remains stapled to Toronto’s bench. It’s a bit unclear why he’s not in the lineup at this juncture. Hopefully there is some clarity on his status at some point relatively soon. It’ll be rookie Sean Keys at DH on Tuesday night at Oracle Park.

Keys broke this game open with a two out, three-run home run in the third inning. It was the first home run of his career and came in front of a raucous crowd at Rogers Centre in Toronto celebrating Canada Day. If he could find regular playing time, he’d be an intriguing corner infield option with a strong underlying profile in the upper minors. This was his third start in five games since being called up and his first at designated hitter after getting the call at first twice while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. battled a tight back. He drew this start because George Springer had a day off, so it’s still a wait and see situation as to Keys getting regular playing time.

It sounds like a precautionary move and fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be rookie Sean Keys moving over to cover first base with Ernie Clement at the hot corner and Luis Urías entering the lineup at second. Guerrero has been through a tough season at the plate with just four home runs across 81 games. There should be an update on his status following Tuesday’s contest in Toronto.
  • TOR 1st Baseman
Keys is at first base and hitting sixth against the Rangers in his major-league debut with Vladimir Guerrero getting a break from the field at DH and George Springer taking a seat. The unheralded 23-year-old power-hitting prospect has put together a true breakout campaign after making some mechanical tweaks to his swing, slashing .284/.409/.619 with 21 homers and seven steals in 286 plate appearances in the upper levels of Toronto’s system. He’ll need to produce at the dish to keep his roster spot with the Blue Jays, but he’s an interesting bat-first prospect that fantasy managers should have on their radar screens, especially in deeper mixed leagues.
  • TOR 3rd Baseman
Keys is having quite the breakout season. After an underwhelming first full professional season in 2025, Keys hit .285/.411/.581 with 14 home runs and 34 RBI in 49 games at Double-A to begin the season and was quickly promoted. Since getting to Triple-A, he has continued to hit, slashing .281/.403/.719 with seven home runs, 20 RBI, and a 15/11 K/BB ratio in 18 games. Despite how many All-Stars they are going to get, the Jays’ offense could certainly use a little bit more punch. The only issue is that Keys plays first base and third base, two positions that are covered in Toronto. There are some reports that he’s been getting some work at second base as well, and if he starts to games there, that could be a sign a promotion is close.

Adley Rutschman went 2-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and a walk as the Red Sox topped the D-backs 9-3 on Tuesday.

Rutschman had a two-run single in the first and then hit a 401-foot homer off Merrill Kelly in the third. It was his first homer in seven games for Boston after 69 in 3 1/2 seasons with the Orioles.

Ranger Suarez yielded four runs in 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in a win over the Diamondbacks.

Congratulations to Suarez on his first decision since June. All of the runs came on Gabriel Moreno’s grand slam in the third, making this Suarez’s first win while giving up four runs since Sept. 21, 2023. He’s now 5-3 while posting a 3.41 ERA in 22 starts this season, and he’ll pitch in Miami next time out.

Merrill Kelly was tagged for six runs in four innings Tuesday in a loss to the Red Sox.

Kelly surrendered seven hits with just four hard-hit balls allowed, which seems like awful luck. Still, when your strikeout rate is just 15 percent, you’re going to have bad luck sometimes. Kelly is 8-11 with a 5.37 ERA, and things don’t figure to get any easier against the Cubs next week.

Gabriel Moreno hit a grand slam to account for all of Arizona’s runs in Tuesday’s loss to the Red Sox.

This might not be the Diamondbacks’ year, but at least Moreno is fulfilling his potential in becoming of the game’s best catchers. The 26-year-old is batting .308/.385/.470 with 10 homers and 60 RBI through 98 games. Not to say they’re exactly equivalent offensive threats, but the only player in MLB with a higher average and more homers than Moreno is Yordan Alvarez.

Fernando Tatis Jr. homered twice and robbed Francisco Lindor of a grand slam Tuesday in the Padres’ 5-2 win over the Mets.

Tatis hit a 452-foot homer off Zac Thornton on the very first pitch of the game, went over the wall in right to take away a slam from Lindor in the second and then added a 379-foot, two-run homer in the fifth. It’s rather absurd now to remember how Tatis went the first 55 games of the year without a homer. He has 15 in 70 games since.

Robbie Ray pitched six innings and allowed one run to pick up a win over the Mets on Tuesday.

Well, it’s definitely an improved outing from Ray, but that’s mostly because Fernando Tatis Jr. made a jumping catch to take away a grand slam from Francisco Lindor in the second. As a result, Ray collected hit first win in three starts for the Padres. He issued three more walks tonight, bringing his total to 11 in 15 innings for his new team. Those that stuck with him were rewarded, but the outing doesn’t make him look like any better of a bet for the future. He’ll start at home against the Pirates next time out.

Mason Miller struck out two in a perfect 10th for his 31st save Tuesday against the Mets.

It’s actually Miller’s first perfect inning in six tries this month, but it’s probably too early to say that he’s slipping. He’s tied for third in the majors in save, four behind Bryan Baker for the lead.

Zac Thornton surrendered three runs in five innings Tuesday in a loss to the Padres.

Two of the runs came in the fifth, an inning that featured two incidents of gloves flying off the hands of Mets fielders. The first of those was on Jake Cronenworth’s fly to left to start the inning. A.J. Ewing caught the ball on a dive, only for his glove to be dislodged when he hit the ground. That resulted in a single. Fernando Tatis Jr. followed with a homer. Luis Rengifo then grounded down the third base line. Bo Bichette got to the ball but made a bad throw, and Christopher Morel had his glove come off while trying and failing to make a swipe tag at first. No runs followed after that, but it was still funny. Thornton dropped to 3-4 with a 3.04 ERA. He’ll face the Brewers next Tuesday.

Pete Crow-Armstrong went 1-for-3 with a solo homer in the Cubs’ 4-3 win over the White Sox on Tuesday.

A day after hitting a leadoff and walk-off home run against the White Sox, he started Tuesday’s contest with another leadoff blast off Bryan Hudson for his 31st homer of the season. With a runner on and one out and the game tied in the bottom of the ninth, the White Sox weren’t going to give him a chance to do it again as they issued an intentional walk. The 24-year-old outfielder is having an incredible campaign, slashing .282/.381/.555 with the 31 homers, 90 runs scored, 79 RBI, and 31 steals across 566 plate appearances.

Michael Busch went 1-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk against the White Sox on Tuesday.

Busch followed Pete Crow-Armstrong in the first inning with a solo homer off Bryan Hudson. He later drew a walk in the sixth. The 28-year-old first baseman is up to 15 homers and 64 RBI while hitting .244/.351/.389 across 561 plate appearances. His batted ball quality is down significantly from last season, making it difficult to follow up his 34-homer campaign. Though 2025 might’ve been the outlier, as his batted-ball metrics are more in line with his 2024 output.
