Tanner Gordon allows four homers, five runs vs. SF

The Marlins brought a run across to score in the first inning on two hits. Two more hits plated a second run in the second inning. Gordon gave up three more in the third on a three-run blast by Javier Sanoja. Gordon gave the Rockies two more scoreless frames before departing at 74 pitches through five innings. The 28-year-old right-hander will take a 6.69 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and a 39/8 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings into a start against the Giants in Colorado on Sunday.

Gordon draws the starting assignment for Tuesday’s contest against the Marlins in place of an injured Tomoyuki Sugano, who is dealing with a finger issue. The 28-year-old righty has been out since early June with a hip impingement. He’s posted a bloated 6.37 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 35/8 K/BB ratio across 34 1/3 innings in a swingman role this season.

It’ll be Tanner Gordon coming off the injured list to start against the Marlins on Tuesday in Sugano’s place. The 36-year-old was torched for seven runs over five innings in his previous outing against the Twins last Friday. It appears the he’ll avoid a trip to the injured list and take the ball against the Giants later this week.

Gordon sustained the injury during his last outing on Sunday. It’s unclear how long he’ll be sidelined for. Zach Agnos was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque in a corresponding move on Friday to take his spot on the Rockies’ active roster.

Gordon allowed two runs over three innings before giving up a double and hitting a batter to start the fourth. That was enough to get him pulled after 75 pitches, and both runners came around to score off Brennan Bernardino. Gordon has a 6.37 ERA through two starts and seven relief appearances. If he stays in the rotation, he’ll face the Brewers at home next weekend.

A little good news for the Rockies a day after the team lost Jose Quintana to an elbow injury. Gordon, who was starting for the first time after seven lengthy appearances out of the pen, left with a one-run lead tonight, though it disappeared in the seventh. He has a 5.85 ERA and a nice 33/7 K/BB over 32 1/3 innings. He should stay in the rotation and face the Giants this weekend.

Sammy Peralta had started this game as the opener for the Rockies, but he only got two outs in the first inning and gave up a pair of runs before Gordon stepped in. Gordon gave up three more runs in the second on four hits and a walk, then surrendered a two-run blast to Brandon Nimmo in the fourth. He would pitch through the seventh, giving up two more runs before his day was done. The 28-year-old right-hander will take a 6.59 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and a 30/6 K/BB ratio across 27 1/3 innings into his next outing against the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Sunday.

Gordon has a 6.35 ERA in 17 innings with the Rockies this season. He was just sent down to the minors on Tuesday, but is back up with Jimmy Herget (shoulder) being placed on the injured list.

Gordon spent the last four weeks mopping up for the Rockies, throwing 17 innings with a 6.35 ERA over five appearances. The Rockies lost those five games he pitched in by a combined score of 40-9.

Gordon, 28, will take the roster spot of Valente Bellozo. The 28-year-old will have a chance to make his first appearance with Colorado in 2026, but was a disaster in 2025 as seen in a 6.33 ERA in 75 1/3 innings.
