Padres ink Dustin Harris to minors contract.

The ninth inning in this one became a bit of a fiasco when the league-leader in saves, Bryan Baker walked the first two batters before being pulled with an injury. Wells came in to clean up the mess and did so after a sacrifice bunt, sacrifice fly, and pop-up. He earned a handful of saves earlier this season with the Orioles and even grabbed one last week after Baker needed a second day off after working three games in a row. If Baker needs to miss any time, expect Wells to be the Rays’ closer.

The Rays big three at the top of their order had their way in this game. Aranda, Yandy Díaz, and Junior Caminero combined to go 7-for-14 with three doubles, one home run, four RBI, and four runs scored. The home run belonged to Aranda, which gave him 18 on the year along with 82 RBI – seventh-most in the American League.

Díaz dragged his club back into this game with a grand slam in the seventh inning when they trailed by five runs. Then, his sacrifice fly in the ninth brought them within one, but they still fell short. That home run was his seventh of the season in what’s been a middling season as the Rangers’ part-time catcher.

Working behind a pair of openers, Rocker struggled mightily here. Jonathan Aranda hit a mammoth 412 foot home run on the fifth pitch he threw and the Rays wound up putting six runs on the board over the first three innings he worked. He didn’t command his sinker well and it got lit up for four hits on four hard-hit balls and he scrapped it after his first time around Tampa’s lineup. Overall, things have not gone well for Rocker in a while and he has a 6.75 ERA over seven starts since August first. He’s scheduled to face the Mariners in Seattle next time out.

DeLauter was forced to leave Friday’s game with the sprain, but Vogt doesn’t believe the 24-year-old is going to need to be placed on the injured list. There’s a good chance he’ll miss Saturday’s game and we’ve seen these things change quickly, but for now, it seems like DeLauter has avoided a serious injury.

Diaz’ home run was his 11th of the season. He hit a solo shot off Merrill Kelly in the third inning. Diaz hadn’t hit a home run since his two-homer game against the Yankees on August 25, a span of six games where he hit .211 with one RBI. He’s hitting .262 with a .719 OPS and 34 RBI.

Kelly gave up seven hits, walked none and struck out four. He fell to 9-13 with the loss. Kelly dominated the Giants for seven innings in his last start. He wasn’t quite as good against the Astros on Friday, though he still put up a quality start. Kelly has a 5.06 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Rangers at home next weekend.

Javier gave up one hit, walked three and struck out eight. He improved to 2-5 with the win. Javier hadn’t completed five innings in any of his last three starts. He’s not worth the trouble for fantasy managers in mixed leagues at this point. Javier will take a 5.98 ERA into his start against the Phillies next week.

Baker has been one of the most reliable closers in baseball, but the right-hander walked a pair of batters before exiting the game with a trainer. Tyler Wells converted the save after Baker exited. There should be an update on the 31-year-old’s status shortly.
