Max Fried (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Friday.

Fried has been sidelined with a bone bruise on the back of his elbow since the middle of May. We know he threw 35 pitches in his last bullpen session, so he may be on a pitch count of around 40-50 pitches in this first outing. There’s a chance that he may only need two or three starts before returning to the Yankees, which means he could be back in New York before the end of July.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said last weekend that Fried would be cleared for a rehab start after facing hitters one final time. The 32-year-old fantasy ace is working his way back from a bone bruise in his elbow that put him on the injured list back in mid-May. It seems reasonable to anticipate Fried rejoining New York’s rotation mix sometime before the end of July.

Fried is slated to throw roughly 35 pitches during a live batting practice session later this weekend with Boone adding that he’ll do so again next week before potentially heading out for a minor league rehab start. The 32-year-old fantasy ace has been out with a bone bruise in his elbow since mid-May. It looks like he has a strong chance of returning to New York’s rotation sometime after the All-Star break.

Fried progressed to facing hitters in a 30-pitch, two-inning session on Tuesday for the first time since hitting the injured list with a bone bruise in his elbow back in mid-May. The 32-year-old is trending towards being ready for rehab starts in early July and should make it back to New York’s rotation sometime after the All-Star break.

Fried is aiming for roughly 30 pitches over two innings during his latest throwing session. It’ll be his first time facing hitters since landing on the shelf with a bone bruise in his elbow back in mid-May. The 32-year-old figures to be ready to progress to a minor league rehab assignment at some point in early July with a return to New York’s rotation possible after the All-Star break.

Yankees’ pitching coach Matt Blake told reporters on Friday that Fried will face live hitters at some point within the next couple of weeks as he continues his progression. After that, he’s likely to require at least one minor league tune-up before he’s ready to rejoin the Yankees’ rotation. Fantasy managers should expect the 32-year-old southpaw back at some point around the All-Star break.

Fried appears on track to progress to facing hitters at some point in the near future, which gives him a chance to make it back to New York’s rotation sometime around next month’s All-Star break. The 32-year-old fantasy ace has been out with a bone bruise in his elbow since mid-May.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters the session went well, which is encouraging. The 32-year-old fantasy ace has been on the shelf with a bone bruise in his left elbow since mid-May. It’ll take a few weeks to ramp-up his throwing progression before he’s ready to return to New York’s rotation. It seems safe to assume that he won’t be back until around next month’s All-Star break since he’ll need at least a couple minor league rehab starts to knock off the rust.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #54
Yankees’ skipper Aaron Boone told reporters on Friday that Fried had recent imaging done that showed increased healing in his balky pitching elbow. It’s still going to be a slow progression for the 32-year-old southpaw as he ramps back up, but the fact that he’s getting on the mound again is obviously an encouraging sign.

This is noteworthy because Fried was expected to get the follow-up imaging on Tuesday, but it apparently did not happen. The left-hander has been throwing from flat ground, but he will need more imaging before he can be cleared to ramp up his progression. Until that happens, there’s no way to put a timeline on his return from a left elbow bone bruise that he suffered on May 13th.

Fried remains limited to flat-ground throwing, but has been given the green light to start stretching out from a distance standpoint and should progress to a bullpen session in the near future. The 32-year-old fantasy ace remains without a definitive return timeline, but he’s probably going to be out through next month’s All-Star break given his current trajectory. He’s been on the injured list with a bone bruise in his left elbow since mid-May.

Garrett Crochet (shoulder) is still not cleared to throw but claims he’s “trending in the right direction.”

Crochet has been sidelined since late April with a shoulder injury and then a subsequent lat strain. He admitted that he needed to dial down what he was doing while recovering and stopped doing plyometric work in recent weeks. Since then, he feels “like [he’s] seen drastic gains.” The Red Sox are now firmly in the playoff race and would love to have their ace back, but until he is cleared to pick up a baseball, it’s hard to know when that will happen, even if he feels he’s moving in the right direction.

Edwin Díaz (elbow) will pitch for Single-A Ontario on Friday.

Díaz made two rehab appearances in the Arizona Complex League during the All-Star break. He will now begin pitching at the affiliates. We would expect him to need a couple of appearances next week as well, and the Dodgers may want to see him pitch on back-to-back nights before activating him. He’s getting close, but we may still be a week or two away from Díaz being back in the Dodgers’ bullpen.

Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) is ramping up his running and baseball activities.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said that Lawlar is “in a good spot,” but there is no timeline for his return as of yet. He will get more imaging done over the weekend to verify the progress of his healing and determine the next steps.

Justin Martinez (elbow) is set to face live hitters in the coming days.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said, “Martinez is just about to step onto a mound in lives. I don’t know the exact day when he’s going to face his lives, but he’s very close, very close.” Martinez had Tommy John surgery last June and had been targeting an August return. As of now, he seems on track to return at some point in August but might need time to work back into leverage innings.

Corbin Burnes (shoulder) has restarted his throwing program.

Burnes was shut down from throwing in early June after suffering a teres major strain. He had a follow-up MRI over the All-Star break, which showed positive healing, and he has begun his throwing program again. Until he progresses enough to begin throwing full bullpens, it’s hard to predict any kind of timeline for his return. At this point, it would be unlikely he makes more than one or two appearances for the Diamondbacks this season.

Michael Soroka (glute) will need to make a rehab start before returning to Arizona, and there is no timeline for his return.

Soroka threw a bullpen on Tuesday as he continues to work back from his glute strain. It sounds like the results of the bullpen might have been mixed since he still does not have a rehab appearance scheduled. Once his glute feels good enough for game action, Soroka will need at least one rehab start before rejoining Arizona’s rotation.

Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo said that Zac Gallen (elbow) “is waiting for other opinions from other doctors.”

Lovullo continued to say, “We’ll just keep putting that off until we get everything complete.” It sounds as if the initial opinion was not great news, but Gallen is doing his due diligence before deciding on a course of treatment. Second opinions can often lead to surgery, which would keep Gallen out for the majority of the 2027 season, but we will wait and see what the results of his additional meetings are.

Geraldo Perdomo received a cortisone injection in his sore left hand over the All-Star break.

The 26-year-old shortstop had been playing through some soreness since the start of the season, so he got a cortisone injection to help out. Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Thursday that it’s not something that should hinder him going forward and isn’t something that should cause him to miss any time. It sounds like fantasy managers don’t have anything to worry about here. He’s considered day-to-day.

Michael McGreevy will start for the Cardinals in Friday’s second half opener on Friday against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.

McGreevy had an outstanding first half for the Cardinals, posting a 3.01 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and a 66/23 K/BB ratio over 101 2/3 innings through his first 18 starts. Dustin May will follow on Saturday with Andre Pallante taking the ball in Sunday’s series finale.
