The Blue Jays have Ernie Clement hitting third Tuesday for the third time this season.

With his team having totaled two runs the last three days, Jays manager John Schneider will just keep tweaking things until something clicks. Nathan Lukes and Vladimir Guerrero Jr., who have been hitting second and third, respectively, have both been moved up one slot tonight. Kazuma Okamoto is down to sixth after spending most of the last month batting fourth and fifth.

The Cardinals are promoting Rob Cerfolio to general manager under Chaim Bloom.

The 34-year-old Cerfolio interviewed for the Athletics’ GM position, but it sounded like he preferred staying in St. Louis, as long as it came with a promotion. He gets that here after spending last season as an assistant GM alongside Randy Flores, who is now gone to Houston, and Moisés Rodríguez. A Yale grad, Cerfolio spent nine years with the Guardians before joining the Cardinals two years ago.

According to FanSided’s Robert Murray, the Nationals and Jacob Young are in agreement on a four-year, $23 million extension with an $8 million option for 2031.

That seems like a nice deal for a player who would have been underrated in arbitration. Young, 27, hit .252/.318/.390 with 10 homers and 18 steals in 471 plate appearances last season. As things currently stand, the contract buys out his three arbitration seasons (2027-29) and then his first in free agency (2030). He presumably would have come up a little short of qualifying for free agency a year early under MLB’s current plan, since he doesn’t turn 30 until July 2029.

Shi Davidi of Sportsnet reports that Blue Jays’ right-hander Jake Bloss has been granted a fourth option year.

The 25-year-old hurler required UCL surgery in May of 2025 then worked his way back to pitch in the minor leagues for a couple of months in 2026 before a teres major strain shut him down in August. He’s now healthy again and pitching in the Arizona Fall League. The extra option provides the Jays with much more roster flexibility as they’ll have the ability to send him to and from Triple-A Buffalo without exposing him to waivers.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets have hired Jonny Washington to be a co-hitting coach.

Washington had been serving as the Braves’ minor league hitting coordinator. He’ll join Mets’ hitting coach Troy Snitker and assistant Rafael Fernandez in trying to breathe life into a Mets’ offense that was lackluster for much of the 2026 campaign.

Blue Jays re-signed OF Rudy Martin Jr. to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 30-year-old outfielder elected free agency after being removed from the team’s 40-man roster at the end of October, but he’ll return on a minor league pact. Martin finally broke through and made his MLB debut with the club in September, going 0-for-2 in his limited action before suffering a hamstring strain. He’ll continue to function as extra outfield depth for the Jays.

The Red Sox are adding Yankees Triple-A manager Shelley Duncan to their major league coaching staff.

It appears that Duncan will serve as either the first base or the third base coach on Chad Tracy’s staff. Since his playing career ended in 2014, Duncan has managed in the D-backs system, served as the Blue Jays’ field coordinator and worked as an analytics coordinator with the White Sox. He took over as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre’s manager four years ago.

The Royals are bringing in Hunter Mense as an assistant hitting coach.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand first reported that Mense would be the Royals’ hitting coach but has since added a correction saying it’d be assistant hitting coach role. Mense was the Giants’ primary hitting coach last season. Given that he’s now taking on a lesser role, he might have had an idea that he wasn’t long for San Francisco. Prior to 2026, Mense spent four years as an assistant hitting coach in Toronto. The 42-year-old spent parts of five seasons in the Marlins system before ending his playing career in indy ball in 2012.

White Sox signed RHP Alec Marsh to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 28-year-old Marsh had a 4.96 ERA in 33 starts and 10 relief appearances for the Royals between 2023 and ’24, but he hasn’t pitched in a game since.

He is coming off Oct. 2025 surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder, and the Royals never really had anything to say about his progress last season before taking him off their 40-man roster last month. Once healthy, he’ll probably spend time in Triple-A trying to work his way back to the majors.

Bryan De La Cruz went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer Wednesday in his second game for Toros del Este of the Dominican Winter League.

He also went 2-for-4 in his first game. The Phillies seem to be leaning towards keeping De La Cruz around next year after he hit .280/.349/.413 in 34 games in the second half of the season. If so, it’d probably be as a platoon partner to Brandon Marsh in left field.

José Tena finished 4-for-4 with two RBI and two walks Wednesday for Estrellas of the Dominican Winter League.

Tena, who was DFA’d by the Nationals on Monday, is making a case for some team to claim him off waivers. The appearance was his second since joining Estrellas earlier this week. He’s played for the club every year since 2022.
