When this game was tied 1-1 entering the ninth inning, it seemed likely that Iglesias would find his way into it. Then, the Braves rallied for six runs in the top of the ninth and he got to relax. Then, Victor Meders let the Padres right back into it with three quick runs and Iglesias was called upon to save it. He gave up a home run to Luis Rengifo, but managed to end this game by striking out Manny Machado and Ty France to preserve the one run lead. That made Iglesias the ninth pitcher this season to record 20 saves and he has a 2.57 ERA to boot.

Raisel Iglesias slammed the door on the Nationals on Thursday night, protecting a one-run lead to secure his 23rd save of the season.

Iglesias started the inning by getting a pair of ground outs, then he made things a bit more interesting by issuing a two-out walk to James Wood. Not to worry though, as he battled back to retire Luis Garcia Jr. on a fly ball to right to end it. For the season, the 36-year-old righty now sports a 2.31 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 43/9 K/BB ratio across 39 innings while converting 23 of his first 25 save chances.

Raisel Iglesias worked a clean inning to earn the save against the Mets on Wednesday.

Iglesias only needed eight pitches to lock down this save and help the Braves avoid a sweep. This was a nice bounce back after blowing his last save opportunity – which only scored due to an error anyway – as Iglesias has been one of the league’s most steady closers with 22 saves and 2.37 ERA.

Iglesias walked the leadoff hitter before Ozzie Albies committed an error on a potential double play. Jackson Holliday later hit a groundout that tied the game at two. The 36-year-old has bounced back this season with a 2.43 ERA and will remain the locked-in closer.

This one wasn’t quite as eventful as Wednesday’s save, but Iglesias did allow two singles with two outs before striking out Luis Rengifo to end the game. Iglesias will probably get Friday off after working the last two days. Dylan Lee would be the favorite to close in his place.

Not only did Iglesias give up a run — a solo homer to Wyatt Langford — but it came in a non-save situation. He’s had some issues in July, as he entered the game with a 6.00 ERA for the month and it obviously goes up a touch after giving up the roundtripper. Still, Iglesias remains one of the better closers in the sport, and fantasy managers can’t panic over a rough patch.

Iglesias didn’t allow a hit and struck out a batter while throwing 7-of-10 pitches for strikes. It puts the 36-year-old at 19 saves on the season, and his ERA dips to 2.23 on the campaign. The next time Iglesias pitches will likely be the All-Star game in Philadelphia on Tuesday.

Iglesias is now tied for the seventh-most saves in MLB despite missing some time earlier this year. The veteran closer has held onto ninth-inning duties even though Atlanta has some of the best late-game reliever depth in the league. He has a 2.30 ERA with just a few games left before the All-Star break.

National League All-Star Raisel Iglesias blew his first save after giving up three runs in the ninth Monday against the Mets.

Iglesias gave up two singles before Juan Soto hit a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth, giving the Mets a 5-3 lead. The Braves came back in the bottom of the ninth, but they went on to lose in 10. The homer was the second allowed by Iglesias this year, and he allowed three runs for the first time since surrendering four against the Yankees last July 19. He’d converted 35 straight save chances (17 this year, 18 last season) since his previous blown opportunity.

The Mets made Iglesias sweat here. Singles by Luis Torrens, Juan Soto, and Bo Bichette put the tying runs on base with Francisco Lindor at the plate and two outs. He hit the ball sharply, but right at Ozzie Albies. Regardless of this rocky outing, Iglesias has been one of the league’s best closers with a 1.53 ERA on the season and zero blown saves.

Iglesias had to sweat this one out. Entering with a two run lead, a walk and a double put runners on second and third with just one out. Then, Brice Turang hit a single that looked like it was going to tie the game before Eli White cut down Jackson Chourio at home plate. He’s been a tad bit shakier recently without a clean inning yet in June, but is still statistically one of the best closers in the league with a 1.48 ERA, zero blown saves, and just one loss that came when he pitched in extra innings last week.

Reds manager Terry Francona said Blake Dunn (elbow) will have season-ending surgery.

The good news for Dunn is that it was a career year — he hit .282/.335/.387 with two homers and six stolen bases in 155 plate appearances. The bad news is that we have no idea how long this elbow surgery will keep him out just yet. He’ll get another chance in Cincy’s outfield mix in 2027 if healthy.

The Athletic’s Katie Woo and Fabian Ardaya report Shohei Ohtani (knee) “did not sound certain this week that his knee will be at 100 percent the rest of the way.”

They point to the idea that Ohtani already needed a day off after recently getting one on Monday as a “red flag,” but note that it is “unlikely” the Dodgers will put Ohtani on the injured list. Still, this is an injury that sounds like it has a chance to linger and cause further interruptions to Ohtani down the stretch. Fantasy managers should be prepared for that possibility. Manager Dave Roberts has already said he’s “very confident” that Ohtani would start on Friday.

The Athletic’s Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal report the Mets are asking teams for a top-100 prospect “and more” in their early conversations with teams about Freddy Peralta.

It would certainly seem like a stretch that the Mets will get anything like what they gave up to get Peralta, though perhaps desperation will take the reins at the deadline after some other dominoes fall. Peralta is 5-9 with a 4.99 ERA and 113 strikeouts in 113 2/3 innings for the Mets this year, but other teams seem to believe they can fix him. The Cubs, Braves, Rays, and Phillies are among the clubs showing strong interest in Peralta per The Athletic reporters.
