Blue Jays transfer Lenyn Sosa (wrist) to 60-day IL

The 26-year-old infielder had been stationed at Triple-A Buffalo. Sosa hit just .195/.207/.283 with one homer and nine RBI in 117 plate appearances between the Blue Jays and White Sox this season. He’s now free to explore the open market looking for other opportunities.

Sosa has been out since late May with a wrist injury and upon being activated, cleared outright assignment waivers and was sent to Triple-A Buffalo. That means he’s off the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster and is unlikely to contribute to the big league team again this season given that news

Sosa will give way to Charles McAdoo on the active roster, though playing time may be sparse enough that there’s little reason to pick up McAdoo. Sosa did not play Wednesday after apparently suffering the injury on Tuesday. He was hitting .188/.205/.275 since being picked up by the Jays for Jordan Rich on April 13.

Lenyn Sosa will make another start at first base in his place. Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters Guerrero was able to hit prior to Tuesday’s contest but is still pretty sore. The 27-year-old franchise cornerstone will miss his second straight contest after being hit by a pitch on the right elbow over the weekend. It’s impossible to rule out a trip to the injured list the longer his absence lingers, but all signs point to Guerrero returning this week, especially since initial X-rays didn’t reveal any fractures. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s series finale.

Guerrero receives some extra time off to rest and recover after taking a pitch off his right elbow during Sunday’s series finale against the Pirates. The positive news for the Blue Jays and fantasy managers is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures. The 27-year-old fantasy superstar isn’t completely out of the woods yet, but all signs point to him returning to Toronto’s lineup this week. It’ll be Lenyn Sosa taking over at first base in his absence.

Okamoto won’t have to face Pirates ace Paul Skenes as he gets a breather following five consecutive starts at the hot corner. It’ll be Ernie Clement taking over with Lenyn Sosa at second base. The 29-year-old could use a break since he’s been mired in a slump for a couple weeks, hitting .161 (9-for-56) with one homer and 24 strikeouts over his last 15 games.

The Blue Jays have played things cautiously in Springer’s return from a fractured toe, making sure to give him ample days off in order to rest. The 36-year-old slugger has seen a massive decline in his offensive production this season, slashing a woeful .194/.282/.306 with two homers, eight RBI and one stolen base in 111 plate appearances. Lenyn Sosa will start at first base and bat fifth while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. functions as the Jays’ designated hitter on Sunday.

Schneider is hitting .143/.324/.250 on the season and hasn’t started against a righty since Apr. 26. One wonders if he might be tracking for a Triple-A demotion if the Jays start getting healthy. Lenyn Sosa is getting more starts than Schneider and hitting higher in the lineup when both play versus lefties. He’s at second base and batting fifth tonight.

The Jays continue to ease Springer back into action after dealing with a fractured left big toe. If you’re going to have to take an occasional breather, doing so against tough Angels’ right-hander Jose Soriano isn’t the worst idea in the world. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will serve as the club’s designated hitter in his stead while Lenyn Sosa draws a start at first base and will bat seventh for the Jays.

This is now the second straight game that Giménez has sat against a left-handed pitcher. Ernie Clement will start at shortstop and Lenyn Sosa will play second base. It’s a bit concerning that Sosa, who also hits left-handed, is in the lineup while Giménez is not. Giménez has enjoyed a better season this year than last season, but he’s in a strong side platoon and lacks power, which limits him to deeper formats.
