Rosenthal: White Sox land Doyle from Rockies

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports that the White Sox are acquiring OF Brenton Doyle from the Rockies for RHP prospect Mason Adams and SS prospect Carlos Vielma.

Doyle was just activated from the 10-day injured list on Friday and went 2-for-7 with a double, a run, and an RBI in two games. The 28-year-old has struggled with injuries this season, but he looked great on his rehab assignment and slashed .260/.317/.446 in 149 games in 2024 with 23 home runs and 30 steals while playing elite defense in center field. His value obviously takes a hit outside of Coors Field, but if he is the regular center fielder in a good White Sox lineup, he will retain some deep league value. Mason Adams is a 26-year-old starting pitcher in Triple-A who has yet to make his MLB debut, and Vielma is a 16-year-old shortstop in the Dominican Summer League.

Doyle is now officially a member of the White Sox, who do happen to have an All-Star in center field in Tristan Peters. It remains to be seen what type of role Doyle will have, but there’s a chance he’s just a weak-side platoon, and a defensive replacement.

Rockies activated OF Brenton Doyle from the 10-day injured list.

While Doyle has struggled during his time with the Rockies this season, his bat showed signs of life during his minor league rehab assignment — hitting .395/.447/.651 with a pair of homers and eight RBI in 47 plate appearances. He’ll have to battle a crowded outfield mix for playing time, but we have seen what Doyle is capable of when he’s running hot, which keeps him on the fringe of mixed league consideration.

Doyle is now 14-for-38 (.368) across 10 games in Triple-A with one home run, five RBI, and one steal. He also played this entire game in center field. There is a chance that the 28-year-old could be back in Colorado by this weekend.

Brenton Doyle (groin) went 2-for-4 for Triple-A Albuquerque on Thursday.

Doyle had begun a rehab assignment earlier in the month after recovering from an oblique injury. However, he suffered a groin injury that delayed that rehab. He was back in the lineup on Thursday but just used as a DH, so he will still need to play the field for a full nine innings before we can even begin to think about him being activated. The Rockies will also likely need to clear up their outfield logjam at the trade deadline.

Doyle was originally sent on rehab assignment for his oblique injury around this time last month, but had to be shut down after a new groin injury popped up. It looks like he may have a chance of being activated towards the end of next week if things go well with the Isotopes this time.

Doyle missed a couple rehab games earlier this week due to left groin tightness. He appears to be feeling better since he was back at DH on Friday night. The 28-year-old center fielder has been out with an oblique contusion since late May. He should be ready to return to Colorado’s lineup at some point later next week.

Brenton Doyle (oblique) and Jordan Beck (hamstring) will begin minor league rehab assignments on Tuesday with Triple-A Albuquerque.

Doyle has been on the shelf since late May recovering from an oblique issue while Beck hit the injured list with a left hamstring strain back in mid-May. The pair, who have been complete non-factors from a fantasy perspective this season, figure to make it back to Colorado’s crowded outfield mix by the end of June.

Rockies placed OF Brenton Doyle on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 20, with a left oblique contusion.

Doyle suffered the injury while attempting to make a diving play in center field during Tuesday’s contest against the Rangers. They attempted to take it day-to-day, but since he wasn’t improving quickly enough it made sense to sit him down for a bit and make sure that he heals properly. Chad Stevens was promoted from Triple-A Albuquerque to take his place on the Rockies’ active roster.

Doyle appeared to be shaken up after diving to attempt to take a double away from Ezequiel Duran in the first inning. He was replaced by Tyler Freeman with Jake McCarthy moving over the center field. There should be an update on his status following the game.

California Post’s Jack Harris reports that Kris Bubic (shoulder) “is expected to be back sometime around the end of August.”

Bubic hasn’t pitched since the middle of May and will be returning when Blake Snell (elbow) and Tyler Glasnow (back) are also likely back in the Dodgers’ rotation. That means that Bubic will most likely serve as a bulk relief option for the Dodgers in September and potentially the playoffs.

Lauer was originally slated to move to a bulk relief role, but the team decided to send Emmet Sheehan down to Triple-A and keep Lauer in the rotation. Of course, Blake Snell (elbow) is also close to returning, and Tyler Glasnow (back) is beginning a rehab assignment, which means Lauer may be moving to the bullpen shortly. For now, he’ll start Wednesday against the Cubs.

Brandon Pfaadt allowed only an unearned run over 6 2/3 innings Monday in the Diamondbacks’ 5-1 defeat of the Padres.

Pfaadt’s strong groundball rate has taken a hit in his last two starts, but it hasn’t kept him from pitching 13 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run. He allowed five hits, walked one and struck out three tonight. He has a 1.78 ERA in his last five starts despite striking out just 13 in 30 1/3 innings, but that strikeout rate is scarier now that he’s no longer racking up the grounders. Even with all of his recent success, he’s not a great play with the Dodgers next on the schedule.

Brandyn Garcia pitched a perfect ninth with a four-run lead against the Padres on Monday.

Garcia was robbed of what could have been his third save in five days when the D-backs scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 5-1 game. He pitched the ninth anyway and turned in a third straight hitless frame. He seems like the favorite for saves in Arizona right now, though because he’s a lefty, he might be needed earlier in games at times.

Michael King surrendered three runs in five innings Monday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

Tim Tawa’s homer in the fourth, which was set up by a walk and a single, did all of the damage. King dropped to 6-8 with a 3.45 ERA. The run support really hasn’t been there for him, but this is the first time he’s lost in four games in which the Padres have scored only one run. He had twice won 1-0 and once taken a no-decision after allowing one run in six innings. He’ll face the Astros next.

While we’re not really buying in, he has hit .266 with four homers and 16 RBI in 23 games since he was recalled July 5.

Junior Caminero launched his 31st and 32nd homers to help power the Rays past the Rockies 13-9 on Monday.

All five of his balls in play tonight were hit at least 98 mph, with the homers checking in at 112 and 109 mph. Caminero is moving into some very rare territory now with 84 homers through his age-22 season. He moved past Al Kaline tonight and is now tied with Mickey Mantle for 15th place on that list. Next up are Jimmie Foxx at 86 and Johnny Bench and Ken Griffey Jr. at 87. He’s not going to approach Mel Ott’s record of 115, but he ought to finish up in the top 10.

Seymour has struggled to find much consistency either as a reliever or, more recently, as a starter/bulk guy, but he showed tonight why he remains pretty intriguing. Unfortunately, as a result of the Freddy Peralta acquisition, he might go back to being a true reliever once Shane McClanahan returns. First, he should be in line for at least one more start Sunday against the Mariners.
