Milwaukee announced the signing prior to Friday’s rainout in Pittsburgh. Wilson joins the Brewers bullpen after allowing seven runs over 7 2/3 innings for the division-rival Cubs. He’s made three appearances in the big leagues between Chicago and Philadelphia this season. He’s made 166 career appearances dating back to 2018.

Fansided’s Robert Murray reports that the Brewers have signed RHP Bryse Wilson.

No word yet on the type of contract, but we’d assume it’s a major league deal. Wilson has become a full-time reliever but has a 6.52 ERA in 9 2/3 innings this season for the Phillies and Cubs. Of course, he pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings against the Brewers back on June 28th, so they must have seen something they liked then.

Wilson has the option to elect free agency, but his clearest path to big-league innings might still be with the injury-depleted Cubs. The 28-year-old was designated for assignment over the weekend after allowing seven runs over 7 2/3 innings for Chicago across two relief appearances.

The Cubs need room on the active and 40-man roster, so Wilson is out to clear space for Jake Woodford. Wilson will hit the waiver wire, and teams could show interest in the 28-year-old as a potential multi-inning relief option.

Wilson worked after opener Ryan Rolison fired two innings and allowed a run. The right-hander was excellent in his bulk work; giving up just four hits and striking out four while not issuing a walk. The 28-year-old could work in a similar role again in the coming days, but there’s nothing scheduled as of yet. There’s no starter lined up yet for Saturday’s game against the Cardinals, so that would be the most likely landing spot for Wilson.

Wilson heads to Chicago as a potential swingman option for their injury-depleted pitching staff. The 28-year-old was jettisoned by the Phillies over the weekend after just one appearance. He posted a lackluster 6.65 ERA in 47 1/3 innings for the White Sox last year and has made 164 career appearances dating back to 2018.

Wilson was called up on Thursday and threw two scoreless innings in his lone appearance for the Phillies. With Max Lazar getting sent down, the Phillies will be making two additions on Monday. Kyle Backhus returning from the IL is one of them. The other is likely to be Alan Rangel, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Scott Lauber, and Rangel could either start or work bulk innings in what had been Andrew Painter’s spot.

O’Brien has given up 10 runs in his last five appearances, taking his ERA from 2.96 to 4.18. The Cardinals have no desire to replace him in the closer’s role, so he’ll probably be left there for now. However, another bad outing right away might not leave them with any choice but to make a move.

Perkins struck out seven, but pretty much everyone else reached against him; he gave up four hits, five walks and a HBP to the other 12 batters he faced. Perkins has a 6.50 ERA in 13 starts and 20 relief appearances for the season. It’s probably time for the A’s to commit to him as a short reliever, since he doesn’t seem like he’s going to be worth keeping around as a starter.
