Wyatt Langford homers, reaches three times in rout

Gausman gave up three hits, walked one and struck out six. He improved to 7-11 with the win. Gausman hadn’t completed five innings in his last two starts, but dominated the D-backs for seven innings on Monday. He has a 4.37 ERA. Gausman is lined up to face the Reds at home on Sunday.

Smith’s save was his 34th of the year. He came on in a 4-1 game and the Angels turned a hit batter, a single and a sacrifice fly into a run. Smith still slammed the door as the Guardians won, 4-2. His ERA is 2.44 on the season.

The Giants, who just got swept by the Red Sox over the weekend, made 10 transactions today before their matchup against one of the NL’s best pitchers and then lost their starting pitcher to an injury in the third, but it ended up being a pretty good night. Devers’ homer was one of five extra-base hits the team had before knocking Chase Burns out in the fourth. He has three homers in eight games and 27 on the season.

Klassen gave up six hits, walked three and struck out three. He fell to 2-2 in the first six starts of his major league career. Klassen had completed at least six innings and picked up the win in his last two starts entering play Monday. He has a 3.67 ERA, but don’t be fooled. Klassen’s 5.15 xFIP suggests he won’t be getting away with his 16.8 percent walk percentage much longer. He’s lined up to face the Yankees at home next week, though he’s not a recommended option in most fantasy leagues.

Foley replaced an injured Carson Whisenhunt in the third and kept the Reds scoreless through the end of the fourth. It’s his first win, save or hold in 12 appearances since returning from shoulder surgery last month. The former Tigers closer has a 3.46 ERA and a 10/5 K/BB over 13 innings.

This might have been the weakest lineup Burns had faced all season, but it got the better of him anyway. He allowed two doubles in the first that would have been homers in the majority of ballparks and gave up a three-run homer to Rafael Devers in the second. The loss drops Burns to 14-3 with a 2.77 ERA. He’s slated to make his next start Sunday against the Cubs, unless maybe the Reds want to push him back with him now being 30 innings over his total from his first pro season last year.

The double off the wall in right in San Francisco would have been a three-run homer in 25 ballparks, according to Statcast. As is, Hill is still looking for his first big-league homer. He 4-for-15 with three doubles through seven games. He should start regularly against righties with Victor Bericoto out.

Messick gave up three hits, walked one and struck out four. He improved to 10-8 with the win. Messick’s only run allowed came in the fourth inning, when the Angels were able to string three singles together and momentarily tie the game 1-1. He was 1-3 over his last six starts entering play Monday. Messick has a 2.50 ERA. He’s lined up to face the Royals at home on Sunday.

That doesn’t sound great. Whisnehunt appeared to be in some real discomfort when he left the game with a trainer rather abruptly with two outs in the third inning. He finished with three strikeouts over 2 2/3 scoreless frames. It certainly seems like he’s headed to the injured list.
