Richie Palacios went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run on Wednesday against the Mets.

Palacios’ sixth home run of the season got out in a hurry as he yanked it down the right field line. It was his first long ball since August 3rd as he tries to find some type of consistency at the plate as he remains the Rays’ strong-side platoon starter at second base.

John Smoltz joints the Dan Patrick Show to weigh in on this year's NLCS matchup, how the Brewers can dethrone the Dodgers and former generations of pitchers compared to today's pitchers.

Palacios gave Tampa Bay a commanding four-run advantage by smacking a two-run single to center field off Yankees reliever Brent Headrick with two outs in the fifth inning. The Rays used a contact-oriented approach to neutralize New York’s ace Cam Schlittler, holding him to just a pair of strikeouts, before ultimately chasing him from the contest in the fifth. With the victory, Tampa Bay takes a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series and has a chance to punch their ticket to the ALCS during Game 3 at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday.

Rays manager Kevin Cash isn’t making any changes following a series-opening victory where Jonathan Aranda’s solo homer was enough for a nearly-flawless Drew Rasmussen, who took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning. Caminero, who is likely to finish near the top of AL MVP Award balloting, finished a phenomenal regular season with 42 home runs, reaching the lofty 40-homer plateau for the second straight season. Here’s the full lineup: Yandy Díaz (DH), Jonathan Aranda (1B), Junior Caminero (3B), Liam Hicks (C), Chandler Simpson (LF), Victor Mesa Jr. (RF), Jonny DeLuca (CF), Richie Palacios (2B) and Taylor Walls (SS).

Palacios drove in a run with a double in the second, walked with the bases loaded in the fifth, and singled in a pair an inning later. That gives Palacios 57 RBI on the season, and his slash now sits at .238/.333/.378 with one game left.

That’s what five straight hitless games will get you. The Rays have Jorge Mateo playing second base tonight. Palacios will probably get another shot on Saturday and then sit against left-hander Robbie Ray on Sunday.

Relying on seven relievers, the Rays were able to limit Seattle to two runs even after the late scratch of Griffin Jax with an elbow issue. Palacios walked and stole a base in the third, doubled in the fifth and then had the game’s biggest hit, a two-run single, in the sixth. He’s batting .231/.333/.349 in 277 plate appearances as the Rays’ primary second baseman against righties. It wasn’t supposed to be this way; the team sent him down in spring training, only to recall him prior to Opening Day because Gavin Lux was hurt.

Rays manager Kevin Cash divulged Friday that Simpson has been playing through a thumb contusion that he suffered earlier this week. The 25-year-old speedster figures to avoid a trip to the injured list, but that’s hardly a lock. He’ll get some extra time off to rest and hopefully put the issue to bed. Richie Palacios is in left field with Victor Mesa Jr. in the opposite corner on Saturday afternoon. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day heading into Sunday’s series finale in Miami.
  • TB 2nd Baseman #1
Palacios gave the Rays their first two runs of the night when he smacked a two-RBI triple to right-center field in the first inning to give the Rays the early lead. Palacios has tripled twice in his last six games, but is just 3-for-15 in the early parts of June. He’s cooled off quite a bit after a strong May, so we’ll see if he can bounce back in some capacity in the coming days.

With runners on the corners, Palacios came up clutch with a two-RBI single in the eighth inning to give the Rays a 3-1 lead. It was the first lead of the night for the Rays, which proved to be enough to secure the win and extend their lead over the Yankees in the AL East. Palacios has now hit in four-straight games while driving in a run in each of those games as well. He continues to play welll with Ben Williamson (back) sidelined and is slashing .342/.432/.395 on the month.

It was Yandy Dìaz, who finished 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two RBI, that did the heavy lifting for Tampa Bay before leaving the contest after being hit by a pitch in the eighth inning. Palacios added a key insurance run with two outs in the eighth when he drilled an RBI double to right field off lights-out reliever Rico Garcia that somehow managed to drop out of Colton Cowser’s glove as he collided with the wall. The versatile 29-year-old should continue seeing time at second base with Ben Williamson (back) out of the lineup.
  • TB 2nd Baseman #15
Williamson hasn’t played since last Friday due to ongoing back tightness. It’s unclear whether he’ll require a trip to the injured list, but the Rays are going to carry him on the bench for now in the hopes that the issue clears up without an extended layoff. It’ll be Richie Palacios at second base on Tuesday night in his place.

Christian Yelich is not in the lineup for Game 1 of the NLCS against the Dodgers on Sunday.

With arguably the best left-hander in the game on the mound for the Dodgers in Tarik Skubal, Yelich will begin the first game of the series on the bench. Andrew Vaughn will be the designated hitter in Yelich’s place and hit fifth. Sal Frelick is also out against the southpaw, so Luis Lara will be the right fielder. The full lineup with Jacob Misiorowski on the mound: Jackson Chourio LF, Brice Turang 2B, William Contreras C, Jake Bauers 1B, Vaughn DH, Garrett Mitchell CF, Cooper Pratt SS, Lara RF and Joey Ortiz at third base.

Enrique Hernández is hitting ninth and playing second base for the Dodgers in Game 1 of the NLCS on Sunday.

The full lineup: Mookie Betts SS, Freddie Freeman 1B, Will Smith C, Shohei Ohtani DH, Teoscar Hernández OF, Max Muncy 3B, Andy Pages CF, Kyle Tucker RF and Hernández at second with Tarik Skubal on the mound.

Rays’ manager Kevin Cash told reporters on Sunday that Shane McClanahan (forearm) will not pitch again during the 2026 postseason.

The 29-year-0old southpaw has been shelved since early September due to forearm tightness, and he hasn’t progressed enough to where the Rays feel comfortable bringing him back, even if they were to advance to the World Series. His health outlook remains murky heading into the 2027 season.

Rays’ manager Kevin Cash confirmed Sunday that right-hander Drew Rasmussen will start Game 1 of the ALCS against the Guardians.

That had been the expectation all along, but it’s now official. The 31-year-old is coming off of a brilliant outing in Game 1 of the ALDS against the Yankees, where he carried a no-hit bid into the eighth inning and struck out 10 batters over eight scoreless frames. He’ll look to get the Rays off on the right foot as they continue their quest to secure the first World Series title in franchise history.

Braves’ team president Alex Anthopoulos told reporters on Sunday morning that Didier Fuentes will be stretched out as a starter once again in spring training.

The prized 21-year-old right-hander threw 80 1/3 innings between the regular season and the playoffs for the Braves in 2026 and the expectation is that he’ll increase to around 130 innings for the 2027 campaign. How he’ll ultimately be used may depend on the Braves’ team needs and whether they need another starter or a reliable setup arm more. He could wind up splitting his time between both roles, which would be unfortunate for fantasy purposes.

The Brewers did not make any changes to their roster for the NLCS.

If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. The Brewers will roll with exactly the same 26-man roster that they used to get past the Padres in the Division Series. The NLCS gets underway on Saturday evening in Milwaukee with an epic pitching showdown between Brewers’ ace Jacob Misiorowski and Dodgers’ star southpaw Tarik Skubal.

The Dodgers added left-hander Justin Wrobleski to their roster for the NLCS.

Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts had mentioned that the team would likely add an extra bullpen arm at the expense of a position player, and that’s exactly what they did with Hyeseong Kim being left off of the roster. Everything else is exactly as it was for their Divisional Series against the Braves.

The Red Sox announced that Caleb Durbin underwent successful surgery on the PIP joint of his left pinkie finger.

The recovery from the procedure isn’t expected to interfere with Durbin’s regular offseason routine and he should be ready for the start of spring training. The 26-year-old infielder hit .248/.332/.378 with 13 homers, 64 RBI and 20 stolen bases over 586 plate appearances in his first season with the Red Sox.

Miguel Rojas (back) is expected to remain on the Dodgers’ roster for the NLCS.

Rojas exited Game 3 of the NLDS and sat out Game 4 due pain in his lower back, but he’s feeling much improved after a recent cortisone injection. He was able to take ground balls and swing the bat on Saturday without issue and should be good to go barring any setbacks.

Munetaka Murakami struck out four times while going hitless against the Guardians in a Game 5 loss in the ALDS on Saturday.

Murakami had an awful day at the plate, and that included a strikeout with the bases loaded in one of the very few chances the White Sox created any sort of chaos. The 26-year-old’s swing-and-miss was readily apparent throughout the season — that’s really an understatement — but so was his power with 35 homers in his 127 games. The average will always be an issue, but Murakami’s power, potential to drive in runs and draw walks will make him relevant in leagues for the next few years at least.
