Diamondbacks recalled RHP Jeff Bajenaru from Triple-A Tucson.
Bajenaru, typically an outstanding Triple-A reliever, had a 4.48 ERA in 64 1/3 innings for Tucson. He might not stick around for long.

Marlins’ manager Clayton McCullough told reporters on Sunday that Pete Fairbanks (hand) will travel with the team to Minnesota with the expectation that he’ll be activated from the injured list when first eligible.
Fairbanks is eligible to return on Tuesday and it sounds like he’ll be ready then or shortly thereafter. Fantasy managers who have been anxiously awaiting his return can probably roll him out there in weekly leagues as long as there’s no negative news before Monday.
Marlins break through with Morel's RBI single
With the Nationals and Marlins tied 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Christopher Morel stepped up in a major way, where his RBI single put Miami up 3-2 over Washington to spark its late rally.

Heriberto Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and two RBI on Sunday as the Marlins bested the Nationals 5-2 in Miami.
Hernandez capped off a three-run uprising in the eighth inning with a two-run single that made it a 5-2 ballgame. With his two-hit effort, the 26-year-old outfielder is now hitting .169/.289/.197 with zero homers, 11 RBI and three stolen bases in his 83 plate appearances.

Jakob Marsee singled, walked, scored a run and stole a pair of bases as the Marlins triumphed over the Nationals on Sunday afternoon in Miami.
The 24-year-old speedster drew a walk in the eighth inning, swiped second and third base and then scored on a two-run single off the bat of Heriberto Hernandez. He has had a really difficult time overall at the plate this season, slashing .182/.307/.277 with two homers, 13 RBI and 12 stolen bases across 177 plate appearances.

Josh Ekness recorded the first save of his MLB career on Sunday, recording the final out to preserve a three-run lead against the Nationals.
It had appeared as though Andrew Nardi would close it out, but he was lifted with a man on and two outs after Curtis Mead came on as a pinch hitter for Jorbit Vivas. Ekness made it look easy, getting ahead of Mead 0-2 before getting him to line out to center to end the game. He now boasts a 2.70 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and a 2/1 K/BB ratio over his first 3 1/3 innings for the Marlins.

Sandy Alcantara delivered a solid performance in a no-decision against the Nationals on Sunday afternoon, surrendering two runs on five hits across six frames.
Alcantara struck out three batters on the day while issuing two free passes. Most of the damage done against him was due to Luis García Jr. who tripled and scored in the fourth inning and added an RBI double in the fifth. The 30-year-old hurler generated 10 swings and misses on 89 pitches on the afternoon, posting a CSW of 27 percent. He’ll try to get back in the win column as he totes a 3.90 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 39/20 K/BB ratio (57 2/3 innings) into Saturday’s tilt against the Rays in Tampa Bay.

Luis García Jr. went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, triple and a run scored on Sunday, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Nationals past the Marlins.
García led off the fourth inning with a triple off of Sandy Alcantara and scored the Nationals’ first run on a ground out off the bat of Brady House. He then smacked a run-scoring double the following frame that knotted things up at 2-2. That would wind up being the extent of the Nationals’ offense. With his two-hit attack, the 25-year-old infielder is now slashing .256/.279/.376 with one homer and 19 RBI in 122 plate appearances on the season.
  • WSH Starting Pitcher #24
Cade Cavalli pitched well in a no-decision against the Orioles on Sunday afternoon, allowing just two runs on four hits over 5 2/3 innings of work.
The right-hander punched out four batters on the afternoon while issuing just one base on balls. All of the damage done against him came in the third inning as Liam Hicks delivered an RBI single and Otto Lopez drove in a run on a fielder’s choice that Nasim Nunez booted. Cavalli got 12 whiffs on 95 pitches on the afternoon, registering a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll carry a 4.02 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and a 44/18 K/BB ratio (40 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s matchup against the Orioles.
  • FA Right Fielder #19
Jerar Encarnacion has elected free agency.
Rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Sacramento from the Giants, Encarnacion will see what’s out there on the open market. The 28-year-old has hit just .176 (6-for-34) with no homers in 35 plate appearances at the big league level this season.
  • ATH Shortstop #5
Jacob Wilson was removed from Sunday’s game against the Orioles in the fifth inning due to an apparent injury.
Wilson dove for a ball behind second base, full extension, and landed awkwardly while knocking the ball down. It’s unclear what exactly he injured during the dive, but Wilson was in obvious pain on the field and immediately knew that something wasn’t right. He’ll head for further evaluation. Look for the A’s to provide an update on his status shortly.
  • LAD Left Fielder #37
Teoscar Hernández is not in the Dodgers’ starting lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Braves.
Dodgers’ skipper Dave Roberts noted that it’s a planned day off for Hernández and that he could get a few more days off going forward as the 33-year-old slugger works his way out of an early-season slump. Alex Call will start in his place in left field and will bat sixth against Braves’ right-hander Bryce Elder.
