Angels signed RHP Justin Dunn to a minor league contract.

As Ben Kenobi once said, now that’s a name I’ve not heard in a long time. Dunn was universally regarded as one of the premier young pitching prospects in baseball roughly a decade ago when the Mets made him the 19th-overall pick in the 2016 MLB Draft. He never quite lived up to his lofty potential, mostly due to persistent shoulder injuries. He’ll get another shot in affiliated ball with the Angels at Triple-A Salt Lake.

Junior Caminero

TB 3rd Baseman #13

Junior Caminero was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Guardians with a right jaw contusion.

Caminero appears to have avoided serious injury after a scary-looking incident when he fouled a ball off home plate that ricocheted directly into his right jaw. He managed to finish the at-bat, despite being in some apparent discomfort, before leaving the contest with a trainer. He presumably underwent imaging that didn’t reveal any fractures in his jaw, which is a massive relief. The 22-year-old fantasy superstar is day-to-day heading into Wednesday’s series finale in Cleveland.

Lucas Sims

CWS Relief Pitcher #39

White Sox re-signed RHP Lucas Sims to a minor league contract.

Sims reunites with Chicago on a new deal after passing through waivers unclaimed and electing free agency earlier this week. The 31-year-old reliever posted a serviceable 4.50 ERA across 10 innings over nine appearances with the White Sox earlier this month.

Rays signed RHP Aaron Brooks to a minor league contract.

Brooks is merely organizational fodder at this advanced stage of his career. The 36-year-old provides Tampa Bay with some additional depth at Triple-A Durham. He was pitching in the independent Mexican League earlier this spring and hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since 2024.

Vince Velasquez

Cubs sent RHP Vince Velasquez outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Velasquez will stick around as emergency depth with the injury-depleted Cubs after tossing 2 1/3 scoreless frames in his lone relief appearance for the club last week. The 33-year-old journeyman has made 192 appearances in the majors between six different organizations dating back to 2015.

Shaun Anderson

Angels RHP Shaun Anderson elected free agency.

It feels inevitable that Anderson winds up back with Los Angeles on a brand-new minor league pact soon. The well-traveled 31-year-old posted a lackluster 5.91 ERA across 16 2/3 innings during his latest stint with the Halos. He’s made 85 appearances in the big leagues between eight different organizations since 2019.

Spencer Schwellenbach

Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow) remains shut down from throwing.

Schwellenbach is one of the most electric young arms in the game, but injuries have limited him to just 17 starts over the past two seasons. He’s unlikely to return to Atlanta’s rotation mix until some point in the second half. The dynamic 25-year-old underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from his elbow back in mid-February.

Hurston Waldrep

ATL Starting Pitcher #30

Hurston Waldrep (elbow) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session next week.

Waldrep is going to need several weeks to ramp up his throwing program in a spring training style build up before he’s ready for a rehab assignment. The 24-year-old former pitching prospect underwent surgery to remove loose bodies from his elbow back in February. It’s possible he’ll be ready to join Atlanta’s rotation at some point in the early stages of the second half.

J.T. Ginn

ATH Starting Pitcher #35

J.T. Ginn (shoulder) is likely to make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Guardians.

Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said Ginn is on track to start later this week after leaving his previous outing over the weekend with a stinger in his right shoulder. There was some concern initially, but it sounds like he’s going to avoid a trip to the injured list.
