Unsworth had a great 2013 in the Midwest League, putting up a 2.32 ERA and a .909 WHIP while striking out 6.3 batters per nine innings. He has struggled in the hitter-friendly California League, as opposing hitters have put up a .316/.351/.531 line, leading to an ugly 6.46 ERA and a 1.493 WHIP. However, his home/away splits tell a different story, as he opposing batters have hit .383/.397/.624 at home and .245/.303/.432 on the road. High Desert is one of the best hitting environments in professional baseball. Unsworth is a command specialist who has the potential to be a solid mid-rotation starter.

The Mariners had been hopeful that he could return over the weekend without requiring a rehab assignment, but he’ll get at least a few games under his belt before rejoining the M’s lineup. The expectation is that he’ll be ready to join the team in Chicago next weekend.

There doesn’t appear to be any significant issue at play here, though the M’s are still determining whether or not Brash will require a trip to the injured list. Either way, it sounds like he shouldn’t be looking at any sort of extended absence, which is obviously very encouraging.

He’ll replace George Valera on the Guardians’ bench after Valera was optioned back to Triple-A following Thursday’s contest. Halpin, a defensive replacement and pinch-runner extraordinaire, saw just eight plate appearances in six games with the Guardians during the 2025 campaign.

As expected, the 39-year-old hurler passed through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as extra rotation depth for the Braves at the Triple-A level. Carrasco has made just one appearance for the Braves this season, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work.

The 32-year-old southpaw had been designated for assignment on Wednesday after a disastrous outing. For now it appears as though he’ll accept the assignment and head to Triple-A Salt Lake where he’ll continue to operate as extra pitching depth for the Halos.

The 34-year-old right-hander exercised the opt-out clause in his minor league deal with the Phillies and is now free to pursue opportunities elsewhere. Trivino had done a nice job in 10 appearances at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, posting a 2.77 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 20/4 K/BB ratio across 13 innings. Given the lack of quality bullpen depth around the league, he shouldn’t be out of work for long.

Nola had been lined up to start on Sunday, but they’ll go with Jesus Luzardo there on regular rest. Mattingly wanted to break up the lefties in his rotation, giving a day in-between Luzardo and Cristopher Sanchez. That means Nola will now be scheduled to make two starts next week, though he misses a prime matchup against the Marlins in Miami.

It could just be due to the fact that the Braves are facing a left-hander in Jose Quintana, but he’s not exactly the type of feared southpaw that you sit your strong left-handed hitters against. It’s encouraging that he hasn’t been placed on the injured list yet, but it sounds like it could be a while before he’s able to return to his post in center field and will be limited to designated hitter duties until then.

The 36-year-old hurler re-signed with the Orioles on a minor league deal on Wednesday after he had briefly explored the free agent market. He has done a nice job so far this season for the O’s, posting a 3.46 ERA over 13 innings in his five appearances. With Ryan Helsley (elbow) heading to the injured list and roles shifting around, Suárez should have an opportunity to stick around this time.

The closer madness continues. Helsley had been one of the top performers in the league at the position, posting a 2.53 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and a 15/7 K/BB ratio over his first 10 2/3 innings while converting each of his first seven save chances. No word yet on the severity of the injury or on how long the Orioles expect their closer to be shelved for. Albert Suarez was promoted from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move on Friday.
