Mariners right-handed pitching prospect Dylan Unsworth struck out twelve batters while scattering three hits over seven shutout innings for High-A High Desert on Friday.
Unsworth had a great 2013 in the Midwest League, putting up a 2.32 ERA and a .909 WHIP while striking out 6.3 batters per nine innings. He has struggled in the hitter-friendly California League, as opposing hitters have put up a .316/.351/.531 line, leading to an ugly 6.46 ERA and a 1.493 WHIP. However, his home/away splits tell a different story, as he opposing batters have hit .383/.397/.624 at home and .245/.303/.432 on the road. High Desert is one of the best hitting environments in professional baseball. Unsworth is a command specialist who has the potential to be a solid mid-rotation starter.
