Abraham Toro went 3-for-5 with a homer as Canada beat Cuba 7-2 on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in WBC history.
Toro finishes Pool A play 7-for-15 with five RBI. Marlins teammates Otto Lopez and Owen Caissie both knocked in two runs today. Even though Puerto Rico clinched a quarterfinal spot a couple of days ago, Canada, which needed to win its final two games to advance, is the Pool A winner by virtue of beating Puerto Rico head-to-head. That means they’ll face the Pool B runnerup, which would be Team USA if Italy beats Mexico tonight.
