Mets prospect Marcos Molina gave up just one run on three hits in 7 2/3 innings for High-A St. Lucie on Wednesday.
Molina scattered three hits, and he walked just one during the start. Since returning from Tommy John Surgery, Molina has been outstanding, compiling a 1.26 ERA and 23 strikeouts in just under 29 innings. Both the fastball and slider are plus, and he pounds the strike zone with those pitches and an average change. He could be part of someone’s rotation before the end of the 2018 season.

Ryan Helsley (elbow) will be reevaluated later this week to determine whether he’ll resume throwing.
Helsley underwent an MRI over the weekend that didn’t reveal any structural damage after hitting the shelf last Friday with elbow inflammation. It’s an extremely positive sign that he could potentially be cleared to resume throwing later this week. He’ll need some time to ramp up again, but fantasy managers should expect him back at some point in May. It’ll likely be Rico Garcia handling the closing duties in his absence based on recent usage patterns.
Hold Skubal in fantasy for now amid elbow surgery
Eric Samulski dissects Tarik Skubal's move to the 15-day IL for an elbow surgery and looks at past examples to explain why he's going to wait a week before making any concrete fantasy decisions.
  • DET 2nd Baseman #25
Gleyber Torres (side) remains out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox.
The encouraging sign here is that Torres has managed to avoid a trip to the injured list and appears poised to return to Detroit’s lineup relatively soon. The 29-year-old second baseman sat out Sunday’s game against the Rangers after an early exit the previous day due to left side tightness. Hao-Yu Lee draws another start at the keystone in his ongoing absence.
  • DET Shortstop #7
Kevin McGonigle is out of the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Red Sox.
It’s a routine off day for McGonigle after hitting a little bit of a rough patch, relatively speaking, going 7-for-28 with four RBI and one steal over his last seven games. The 21-year-old rookie hitting machine has been a certifiable force for Detroit, slashing .315/.407/.477 with 15 extra-base hits, 16 RBI and three steals through 34 games this season. It’ll be Zack Short taking over at shortstop, naturally, in his place on Monday night.
  • CHC 2nd Baseman #2
Nico Hoerner (neck) is in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Reds.
Hoerner returned to Chicago’s lineup for Sunday’s series finale against Arizona following a one-game absence due to neck tightness. The 28-year-old second baseman is back at the keystone and hitting leadoff on Monday evening at Wrigley Field.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher #54
Sonny Gray (hamstring) completed a bullpen session on Monday.
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy told reporters he’ll need to check with president of baseball operations Craig Breslow before confirming whether Gray will take the ball on Wednesday against the Tigers in Detroit. The 36-year-old veteran has been on the shelf working his way back from a hamstring strain since April 21.
  • FA Relief Pitcher #57
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports the Orioles are signing reliever Lou Trivino to a one-year contract.
Trivino augments Baltimore’s middle relief depth after opting out of his minor league pact with the Phillies last week. The 34-year-old veteran has pitched well at the Triple-A level this season with a 2.77 ERA and 20/4 K/BB ratio over 13 innings.
  • TOR Right Fielder #4
George Springer (toe) is not in the lineup for Monday’s series opener against the Rays.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider delivered a positive update that Springer is likely to be available off the bench on Monday night and will hopefully be ready for Tuesday’s showdown. The 36-year-old veteran outfielder somehow managed to avoid serious injury when he fouled a ball off the same left toe that he fractured a couple weeks earlier. It sounds like there’s a strong possibility he’s ready to come off the bench, if needed, and return to the lineup this week. Daulton Varsho is at DH with Myles Straw patrolling center field on Monday night.
  • FA Left Fielder #34
The White Sox are signing Randal Grichuk to a one-year contract, according to FanSided’s Robert Murray.
Grichuk lands on his feet with the White Sox shortly after being cut loose by the Yankees last week. The 34-year-old figures to operate in a lefty-mashing bench role for Chicago. He can be safely ignored for fantasy purposes.
  • BOS Starting Pitcher
Red Sox selected the contract of LHP Alec Gamboa from Triple-A Worcester.
Gamboa gets a shot with Boston as a middle reliever after posting a 6.23 ERA and 15/5 K/BB ratio across 13 innings in three starts for Triple-A Worcester this season. The well-traveled 29-year-old lefty will likely pitch in mop-up duty for the Red Sox. He’ll be making his big-league debut when he gets into a game.
  • BOS Relief Pitcher #67
Red Sox placed LHP Danny Coulombe on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 2, with back spasms.
Coulombe has struggled to a bloated 5.63 ERA across eight innings since signing a one-year deal with the Red Sox back in mid-March to fortify their middle relief situation. The 36-year-old lefty figures to miss at least a couple weeks.
