Tyler Locklear has had his rehab assignment moved up to Triple-A after three games in the Complex League.

Locklear, who hit .175/.267/.262 in 31 games for the Diamondbacks last year after arriving from Seattle in the Eugenio Suárez deal, is coming back from elbow and shoulder surgeries. He’ll probably be sent down for a time after his rehab assignment concludes, but he could be a factor at first base at some point, assuming that Ildemaro Vargas eventually remembers that he’s Ildemaro Vargas.

Matt Wallner is fine after getting hit by a pitch and being removed for a pinch-hitter Thursday against the Nationals.

Wallner was shaking his left hand after getting hit in the sixth, but according to The Athletic’s Dan Hayes, the Twins were just playing matchups when they removed him an inning later.

Rhett Lowder

CIN Starting Pitcher #25
Rhett Lowder’s exit Thursday against the Cubs was due to right shoulder discomfort.

Bummer. At least the Reds are getting Nick Lodolo back on Tuesday, but they might need to again turn to Chase Petty if Lowder lands on the IL, as seems likely. Lowder ended up being charged with three runs in three-plus innings today against the Cubs, as both guys he left on in the fourth came around to score.

Zack Gelof

ATH Center Fielder #20
The A’s have Zack Gelof starting over Darell Hernaiz at third base for a second straight game Thursday.

Gelof has mostly played against lefties since getting called up, but this is his second straight start against a righty. Hernaiz had started nine straight games prior to yesterday. Sporting both the best strikeout rate and bat speed of his career, Gelof is batting .255/.300/.426 through 52 plate appearances. If he reemerges as a regular and gets back to stealing bases, there’s a chance he could offer some mixed-league value in a fantastic situation for hitters in Sacramento.

Peyton Gray

TEX Relief Pitcher

Peyton Gray left Thursday’s game in the eighth inning after taking a liner off his left wrist/forearm.

Gray, a right-hander, was hit just above his glove and was bleeding from the area afterwards. He looked like he wanted to continue anyway, but Gavin Collyer was brought in to take his place.

Rhett Lowder

CIN Starting Pitcher #25

Rhett Lowder left Thursday’s game against the Cubs in the fourth inning with an injury.

Lowder got a visit from the trainer after throwing a pitch to Michael Busch and left for the dugout a couple of minutes later without trying any warmup pitches. Connor Phillips replaced him. Lowder was charged with one run over the first three innings and had two men on base with none out in the fourth when he exited.

Matt Wallner

MIN Right Fielder #38

Matt Wallner was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the seventh inning of Thursday’s game after getting hit on the left hand by a pitch in the sixth.

The pitch was only a few inches inside, and Wallner was trying to check his swing when his top hand got hit. Hopefully, this proves minor. Wallner was showing signs of warming up at the plate, having gone 4-for-8 with a homer and a double in his previous two games.

Grant Holman

PHI Relief Pitcher
Phillies claimed RHP Grant Holman off waivers from the Tigers; optioned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Holman is with his fourth organization in three months after being DFA’d by the A’s, the Dodgers and the Tigers. The 25-year-old has a 4.66 ERA in 38 2/3 innings, all with the A’s, as a major league reliever.

Alec Bohm

PHI 3rd Baseman #28
Alec Bohm is on the bench in favor of Edmundo Sosa for Thursday’s game against the A’s.

Bohn’s xwOBA has been somewhat better of late than it was at the beginning of the year, but that’s not saying much. He’s 4-for-20 with two RBI to begin May, leaving him at .159/.227/.206 overall.

Brendan Donovan

SEA 3rd Baseman #33

The Mariners are planning to activate Brendan Donovan for Friday’s game against the White Sox.

Donovan, on the IL with a groin strain, was supposed to play in two rehab games, but since last night’s was rained out, he’s returning after just one. He’ll presumably go right back into the leadoff spot for Seattle. Jhonny Pereda will likely go back to Triple-A, assuming that Cal Raleigh is fine to catch.
