    Giants released RHP Peter Tago.
Tago inked a minor league contract with the Giants last November and wound up allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 12 hits with an 8/9 K/BB ratio across nine innings (eight appearances) for Triple-A Sacramento. The 29-year-old former first-round selection of the Rockies back in 2010 has yet to appear in the majors.

Ronald Acuña Jr. hit two homers, walked and stole two bases in the Braves’ 5-2 defeat of the Reds on Saturday.
The two-homer, two-steal game is a first for Acuña and just the 23rd time it’s happened in major league history. Juan Soto on Aug. 30 and Mickey Moniak on Sept. 7 both did it last year, and Shohei Ohtani accomplished it in his absurd 6-for-6, three-homer, 10-RBI game on Sept. 19, 2024. Chipper Jones in 1999, Rafael Furcal in 2005 and Ender Inciarte in 2017 were the previous Braves to pull off the feat. Acuña has homered in three straight games and is up to .246/.369/.419 on the season.

James Schiano discusses what the long-awaited return of right-handed pitcher Jared Jones means for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Martín Pérez kept the Reds to two runs through five innings in picking up a win Saturday.
Pérez has made eight starts this season, pitching between five and six innings in all of them. He’s allowed no runs twice, one run twice, two runs twice and four runs twice. Throw in his two runs in 9 1/3 innings out of the pen, and he has a 2.79 ERA. He’ll pitch at home against the Pirates next week.
  • ATL Relief Pitcher #26
Raisel Iglesias pitched a perfect ninth with a three-run lead for a save Saturday against the Reds.
Iglesias gave up a hard liner to JJ Bleday to end the game, but it was a fine rebound performance for him after he gave up two runs and four hits in the ninth against the Red Sox on Tuesday. He improved to 10-for-10 saving games this season.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #51
Brady Singer took a loss to the Braves after giving up three runs in five innings on Saturday.
Singer gave up homers to Ronald Acuña Jr. and Jorge Mateo, walked four and finished with only two strikeouts. He’s 2-5 with a 6.18 ERA, and it’s worth wondering if he might lose his spot if Rhett Lowder can come back in a couple of weeks. Singler will miss his old friends the Royals in the three-game series that starts Monday. Unless things get shuffled around after Thursday’s off day, he’d be slated to start Friday against the Cardinals.
  • ATL Shortstop #2
Jorge Mateo took Brady Singer deep for his third homer of the year Saturday against the Reds.
The Braves are going with the hot hand at short and that meant Mateo again tonight. He’s started four games in a row, DHing in the first of those but playing three at shortstop since. He probably won’t keep this up for much longer, but he’s currently at .316/.358/.487 through 81 plate appearances. Mateo hit .216/.261/.350 in 641 plate appearances from 2023-25.
  • CIN Left Fielder #22
JJ Bleday went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer Saturday to give the Reds their only runs against the Braves.
Bleday started against a lefty for the sixth time since being called up and homered off Martín Pérez to help his case for remaining a full-timer. He seemed to have cooled off last week, but he’s gone 8-for-20 with three homers in his last five games.
  • HOU Shortstop #3
Jeremy Peña went 3-for-5 with a with a two-run homer, a steal and three runs scored in the Astros’ 9-2 takedown of the Brewers on Saturday.
Peña put one over the Crawford Boxes today, hitting a Brandon Sproat sweeper 392 feet to left. After going his first 17 games without one, Peña has homered in three of his last four starts to rebound to .273/.323/.420 for the season.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #20
Peter Lambert worked five innings and allowed two runs Saturday in a win over the Brewers.
Lambert allowed five hits, walked three and struck out three with his velocity down a tad today. He has a 5.63 ERA and a 14/9 K/BB over 16 innings in his last three starts, though he’s won two of those anyway. He’s still securely in Houston’s rotation, and he’ll likely make his next start Friday at home against the A’s.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #23
Brandon Sproat was tagged for five runs in 4 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Astros.
Sproat wasn’t actually too bad in striking out four and walking none today. However, he gave up two hits prior to Jeremy Peña’s homer in the third, and after he was pulled following a single, a groundout and a walk in the fifth, both inherited runners came around to score off Chris Rodriguez. Sproat has completed five innings in just one of his last six starts. Now 1-4 with a 6.24 ERA, his rotation spot is hanging by a thread. He’s in line to face the Giants on Thursday.
  • BOS Left Fielder #16
Jarren Duran went 2-for-6 with a three-run homer Saturday as the Red Sox bested the Guardians 9-1 on.
This was a tight game until the end. The Red Sox got one insurance run in the eighth to make it 3-1 and then broke the game open in the ninth, with Duran’s homer concluding the scoring. Duran is 16-for-46 with five homers and 13 RBI in his last 10 games, raising his OPS from .548 to .675.
