Narciso Crook hit two homers and drove in five runs as the Red Sox topped the Yankees 11-7 on Thursday.
The Red Sox are still undefeated this spring, having gone 9-0-3. Crook, 27, made his major league debut for the Cubs last season, going 2-for-8. He finished at .260/.345/.492 with 19 homers and 13 steals for Triple-A Iowa. He’s not a candidate to make the Red Sox out of spring training, but he’s very good Triple-A depth for a team that might need it.

Mike Burrows shut out the Reds for seven innings, allowing just three hits, in the Astros’ 10-0 victory Friday.
Burrows struck out six and walked one. For all of his success, he got just seven whiffs, five of which came on the changeup he threw 28 times in the 98-pitch outing. Burrows’ longest career start moved him to 2-4 with a 5.04 ERA and a 42/14 K/BB in 44 2/3 innings. He’ll face the Mariners at home next week.
Cubs would be 'in shambles' without Imanaga
James Schiano discusses Shota Imanaga's performance against the Cincinnati Reds and how the pitcher has shaken off a rough end to the 2025 season.

Returning from a blister, Nick Lodolo allowed four runs in 5 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Astros.
Lodolo’s velocity was up about one mph from last year in his 2026 debut, and he was decent in allowing just one walk and five hits. Unfortunately, two of those hits were two-run homers. He should still be a solid play against the Nationals next week.

After coming in with the Reds down 5-0 in the ninth, Tony Santillan gave up four runs without retiring a batter Friday against the Astros,
Two singles, followed by two homers. Santillan came into the game with a 2.87 ERA in 15 2/3 innings, but his velocity is down 2.3 mph from last year and he’s been walking too many batters. For Santillan to have this outing on the heels of Graham Ashcraft’s blown save Thursday suggests that things are not going to be OK for the Reds bullpen while Emilio Pagán is out. This does really make Ashcraft look the better fantasy bet going forward, though.
  • HOU Left Fielder #44
Yordan Alvarez went 2-for-4 and hit his 13th homer, a two-run missile off Nick Lodolo, Friday against the Reds.
Alvarez’s homer was hit 115.9 mph and at just a 19-degree launch angle, so it was got out in an incredible hurry. He’s third in the majors in homers and second with a 1.079 OPS.
  • HOU Center Fielder #16
Zach Cole hit a three-run homer off the bench Friday against the Reds.
The Astros were already up 5-0 in the ninth when Cole took Tony Santillan deep, so it wasn’t a difference-maker. Still, it can’t hurt Cole when it comes to playing time. He was predictably on the bench in a lefty-lefty matchup tonight, but he’s 3-for-3 starting against righties since returning to the majors.
  • CIN Catcher #37
Tyler Stephenson went 0-for-3 against the Astros on Friday, dropping his average to .189.
Stephenson has driven in just six runs in 32 games. He’s also getting some criticism for a bases-loaded play Thursday in which Ke’Bryan Hayes went for the double play by stepping on third and then throwing home, only Stephenson didn’t see Hayes touch the base and gave the Cubs a run by assuming it was a force play. Stephenson’s exit velocity numbers are actually better than usual, but his pull rate is way down. One imagines he’ll figure it out eventually.
  • MIL Left Fielder #20
Brandon Lockridge had to be carted off the field on Friday night after he collided with the concrete wall while attempting to make a sliding catch.
Lockridge was in a dead sprint and slid in an attempt to make the catch when he right knee collided with the concrete wall. He’ll obviously head for further testing to determine the severity of the injury. Expect the Brewers to provide an update as soon as more information becomes available.
  • FA Left Fielder #28
José Azocar has elected free agency.
Rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett, the 29-year-old outfielder will peddle his wares on the open market instead. A terrific defender and baserunner, it’s unlikely that he’ll be out of work for long.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #52
Troy Melton (elbow) looked sharp during his second minor league rehab start at Single-A Lakeland on Friday, striking out five batters over three perfect innings.
Melton needed just 27 pitches (22 strikes) to record nine outs on Friday, as he was in complete command throughout. His fastball averaged 95.4 mph and topped out at 96.4 while he generated nine whiffs in just 19 swings. That’s mighty impressive. He’s not eligible to join the Tigers until the end of May, but barring any setbacks he’ll be a very welcomed addition to a pitching staff that could use an influx of talent.

Dodgers recalled RHP Paul Gervase from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
With Tyler Glasnow (back) heading to the injured list, Gervase will provide a fresh arm in the bullpen for at least a couple of days. The 25-year-old hurler holds a 3.65 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and a 17/9 K/BB ratio across 12 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level this season.
