Tucupita Marcano will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.
Marcano will need to wait a few weeks for the swelling to subside before undergoing the procedure. There isn’t a clear timeline for his return yet, but he’s likely going to wind up missing some time in the early stages of the 2024 season as well.

Royce Lewis went 2-for-4 in Minnesota’s loss to the Tigers on Thursday.
Lewis has reached base in every game since his recall and raised his seasonal line from .163/.261/.279 to .189/.281/.320 in just five games. A pre-emptive pickup probably wouldn’t be the worst use of a roster spot if you’re desperate at third base. He’s also played games at first and second base since being recalled, so he looks like he’ll eventually get some positional flexibility for fantasy purposes.
Rays' ace Rasmussen proving he is a top-20 SP
Consistently of baseball's most "underrated" arms, Drew Rasmussen is fresh off a career-best outing amid another impressive season. James Schiano dives into the numbers behind his brilliance.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #54
Keider Montero pitched into the seventh inning, allowing just four hits and a walk while shutting out the Twins for a win on Thursday.
Montero built this outing on weak contact, as he struck out four and only got whiffs on 7-of-46 swings. However, he also allowed only five hard-hit balls, and with the Tigers taking a chokehold on this game in the middle innings, he had enough rope to pitch deep into the outing. Montero will draw the Astros in his next start and remains a streamer consideration, albeit one with low strikeout upside, in mixed leagues.
  • MIN Starting Pitcher #52
Zebby Matthews went six innings and allowed seven earned runs to the Tigers in a loss on Thursday.
The Twins didn’t really need to send him back out there after he allowed three runs in the fourth, but he absorbed some more punishment to save the bullpen. Matthews’ velocity was down a tick or two across the board, and it showed mostly in his fastball as batters missed just 1-of-15 swings against it. He allowed 10 hard-hit balls. Matthews is a fringe streamer in his next start against the Rangers in a good pitcher’s park, but it’s really only that context that keeps us interested.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #39
Mariners selected the contract of RHP Michael Rucker from Triple-A Tacoma.
Rucker has a 4.96 career MLB ERA in 121 1/3 innings over the 2021-2023 seasons with the Cubs. He has a 1.59 ERA in 22 2/3 innings with Tacoma, striking out 25 and walking 11. He’ll join the low leverage relief mix for Seattle.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #46
Mariners designated RHP Domingo González for assignment.
González gave up four earned runs while throwing 39 pitches to close out yesterday’s loss to the Orioles, so he’s being jettisoned from the roster for a fresh arm. González hadn’t given up an earned run in the majors before yesterday, and will likely be outrighted to Tacoma if he clears waivers.
  • CLE Relief Pitcher #50
Guardians optioned RHP Codi Heuer to Triple-A Columbus.
A corresponding move will reportedly be made on Friday. Heuer allowed five earned runs in eight innings with the Guardians while striking out six and walking five. The 29-year-old will likely ride the Columbus-Cleveland shuttle again when the team needs a fresh arm.
  • MIL Starting Pitcher #46
Quinn Priester (thoracic outlet syndrome) returned from his rehab assignment to the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League and remains on the injured list.
Not great news. The Brewers and Priester will likely consider all options going forward, but it appears unlikely he’s going to contribute this year if he’s got to halt his comeback momentum again. Further updates to come when the Brewers have them, but this has all the makings of a lost year for Priester.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #57
Yankees activated RHP Angel Chivilli from the 15-day injured list; optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Chivilli hadn’t allowed a run in Triple-A before being recalled to the big leagues and getting hurt. The 23-year-old figures to get another look with the Yankees before too long. He managed a 3.86 ERA in two games (2 1/3 innings pitched) before getting hurt.
  • PIT Right Fielder #55
Pirates recalled OF Esmerlyn Valdez from Triple-A Indianapolis.
Valdez did get consistent playing time with the Pirates during his recall in May, hitting two homers in five games. That’s about all he did — they were his only two hits. He’ll probably be hard to trust even with consistent playing time, but the power is worth dreaming on in deeper leagues. Shallow league managers should likely just wait and see.
  • PIT 3rd Baseman #38
Pirates optioned INF Davis Wendzel to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Brandon Lowe turned out well enough to keep playing after his leg injury, so Wendzel had just four plate appearances in two games with the Pirates this time around. He returns to Triple-A Indianapolis as a depth piece for the Pirates.
