Pérez receives the call to the majors for Saturday’s showdown against the Nationals after posting a 4.43 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 53/20 K/BB ratio across 40 2/3 innings (30 appearances) this season in Oakland’s minor league system. The 26-year-old lefty made 10 relief appearances last year for Washington.

Ryan Pepiot (hip) is throwing a bullpen on Friday.

It’s possible that Pepiot is activated as soon as Tampa’s next series against the Cubs if everything checks out. Pepiot has been dealing with right hip inflammation since late March, and assuming there are no setbacks, it seems like he’ll be returning sooner rather than later.

MASN’s Roch Kubatko reports Zach Eflin (elbow) is getting a second opinion on his elbow.

Eflin is flying to Texas to see Dr. Keith Meister, which would seem to indicate that he did not exactly love the first opinion medical professionals offered him. We would be surprised if Eflin wasn’t out for a majority of the year based on this update, even if he has avoided a UCL tear and instead has something (relatively) more minor.

Miguel Amaya

CHC Catcher #9
Miguel Amaya is batting ninth and playing designated hitter against the Guardians on Friday.

Amaya has started to see some time at DH against lefties, which is a good sign for how the Cubs feel about his bat. The bad news is that he’s hit ninth in every game he’s appeared in this year. Amaya, off to a .375/.444/.750 start with a homer in his first nine plate appearances, probably deserves to cut into Carson Kelly’s playing time more than he did last year. We’re skeptical it actually happens. Kelly is batting cleanup against LHP Joey Cantillo.

Masyn Winn

STL Shortstop #0

Masyn Winn, who is leading off Friday, said he was driving with Dustin May ahead of him and Nolan Gorman behind him when he had his car accident right after Wednesday’s game.

Winn hydroplaned on wet pavement and bounced off barriers on both sides of the road. May called the Cardinals trainers, and Gorman called team security. Winn did briefly wind up in the hospital, but he’s obviously fine. Winn has been batting fourth against righties, but he’s leading off today against a lefty with JJ Wetherholt sitting.

Trey Yesavage

TOR Starting Pitcher #39

Trey Yesavage (shoulder) will start tonight for Single-A Dunedin as he begins his rehab assignment.

He’ll go about three innings, give or take. Assuming no setbacks, we should expect to see Yesavage activated off the injured list in mid- or late-April. He remains a high-upside hold in fantasy leagues for the time being.

Brooks Lee

MIN 3rd Baseman #22
Brooks Lee (illness) is not in Friday’s lineup against the Rays.

This is the third time Lee has been out of the lineup in seven games. The 25-year-old is hitting just .154/.214/.154 in 14 early-season plate appearances. Tristan Gray is drawing the start at shortstop. Given that Lee is batting ninth even when he is playing, it feels like fantasy managers can’t even trust Lee as an AL-only league accumulator at this point.

Eric Lauer

TOR Starting Pitcher #56

Eric Lauer (illness) will have his Saturday start against the White Sox pushed back to Sunday.

Instead of opposing Anthony Kay on Saturday, he’ll square off with Davis Martin on Sunday. Either way, Lauer’s probably worth a stream in 14-team leagues against a 1-5 White Sox team that has been held to two runs or less in four of their first six games of the year.

Mickey Moniak

COL Right Fielder #22

Rockies activated OF Mickey Moniak from the 10-day injured list.

He slides right into the third spot of the lineup in Colorado’s home opener against the Phillies. Moniak is (obviously) not a must-roster, but a fine streamer in the friendly confines of Coors Field. He hit .303/.348/.598 in 253 plate appearances at home last season.

Coby Mayo

BAL 1st Baseman #16
Coby Mayo is not in the starting lineup for Friday’s game against the Pirates.

It’s the second time in three games that Mayo has sat, both against right-handed starters. Mayo is off to a .118/.250/.176 start in 20 plate appearances. Jeremiah Jackson is handling second base while Blaze Alexander shifts over to the hot corner.

Chase DeLauter is starting as the designated hitter and batting second on Friday against the Cubs.

DeLauter gave Guardians fans and fantasy managers a scare when he had to leave the game on Tuesday after fouling a ball off his foot. He missed one game but is now back in the lineup.
