Rangers transferred INF/OF Brad Miller to the 60-day injured list.
Miller had been on a minor league rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco after recovering from a left hamstring strain, but now he won’t be eligible to return before the end of the regular season. The move frees up a spot on the Rangers’ 40-man roster for Evan Carter to join the big league roster on Friday.

Tyler Phillips gave up three runs with two strikeouts over five innings in a loss against the Mets on Saturday.
Phillips held the Mets scoreless through three innings, then gave up three runs on a walk and three hits in the fourth. He gave the Marlins one more scoreless frame, ending his day after five with two strikeouts. The 28-year-old right-hander will take a 1.63 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, and a 33/19 K/BB ratio across 38 2/3 innings into a start against the Rays in Miami on Friday.
Pirates' Jones to make season debut vs Twins
James Schiano discusses what the long-awaited return of right-handed pitcher Jared Jones means for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • COL 3rd Baseman #12
Kyle Karros is out of Colorado’s lineup Saturday for the second time in three games.
Karros started 47 of the Rockies’ first 56 games, but he is hitting just .204/.306/.287 with two homers and 14 RBI in 183 plate appearances. The Rockies could consider sending him down for a spell and giving more time to Willi Castro and Chad Stevens at third after one of their injured outfielders comes off the IL.
  • BAL Catcher #29
Samuel Basallo injured his left shoulder on a swing in the bottom of the ninth Saturday against the Blue Jays.
It was strike three, so Basallo didn’t technically leave the game. However, from the looks of things, he certainly would have had to if the game had continued. Basallo was taking a cut when his right hand let go of his bat, leading to an awkward followthrough. Basallo reached for the left shoulder afterwards and never really let go as he made his way into the dugout and towards the clubhouse. Hopefully, it’s not a severe injury, but if he needs to go on the IL, the Orioles would probably replace him with catcher Silas Ardoin. Tyler O’Neill would probably be the biggest beneficiary in terms of playing time.
  • LAD 3rd Baseman #13
Max Muncy is out of the lineup Saturday against Phillies left-hander Jesús Luzardo.
Muncy was playing against most lefties before hurting his wrist last weekend, but since he’s probably still not quite 100 percent, this is a good opportunity to rest him after back-to-back starts Thursday and Friday. Santiago Espinal is playing third tonight.
  • LAA Shortstop #9
Zach Neto left Saturday’s game in the seventh inning following a collision at home plate.
Pitcher Ian Seymour fell right on the back of Neto’s head as the shortstop was sliding in and scoring on a wild pitch, and Neto was down for a while afterwards. Oswald Peraza replaced him afterwards. If Neto is forced to the IL, the Angels probably call up Denzer Guzman to play short, unless maybe they’re content with Peraza’s glove there and want to choose Christian Moore instead.
  • SF Center Fielder #9
Giants placed OF Harrison Bader on the 10-day injured list with plantar fasciitis.
It turns out Bader isn’t sitting tonight in favor of Drew Gilbert, even if that might have been deserved. He’ll serve his second IL stint of the season after hitting .170/.198/.358 in 30 games to start his Giants career. It’ll likely be Gilbert in center against righties and Victor Bericoto in right against lefties, with Jung Hoo Lee sliding over, while Bader is out.
  • SF Left Fielder #7
Giants recalled OF Will Brennan from Triple-A Sacramento.
Brennan was just sent down Thursday upon Jung Hoo Lee’s activation. As a result of Harrison Bader’s injury, he’s returning as a backup outfielder after having gone 2-for-23 the first time around.
  • KC 3rd Baseman #11
Maikel Garcia left Saturday’s game in the seventh inning with a strained right hamstring.
Garcia was hurt after turning the corner at second base and running to third on a Vinnie Pasquantino double and appeared to be in a lot of pain. If he lands on the IL, then Nick Loftin will probably take over as the Royals’ primary third baseman for a spell. The Royals have Abraham Toro, Josh Rojas and Brandon Drury all stashed in Triple-A if they want to add some veteran depth.
  • HOU Shortstop #28
Braden Shewmake left Saturday’s game due to right groin soreness.
Nick Allen replaced him at second base against the Brewers. Shewmake was 0-for-2 with a strikeout before exiting.
  • ATH 2nd Baseman #22
Jeff McNeil is on the bench Saturday for the first time in 16 games.
McNeil, who is 1-for-19 with thres GIDPs in his last six games, played against Carlos Rodón last night, but he’s sitting against fellow lefty Ryan Weathers tonight. Alika Williams is playing second base in his place.
