Alex Wood did an outstanding job in emergency action as a bulk reliever on Tuesday, piling up five strikeouts while allowing just one unearned run over 4 2/3 frames.
Wood was thrust into a bulk role with Tuesday’s scheduled starter — Kyle Harrison — scratched due to illness. He allowed just four hits and three walks on the evening. The lone tally against him came on an RBI ground out off the bat of Ha Seong Kim in the third inning after an error by Brett Sullivan extended the inning. The 32-year-old left-hander got six whiffs on 83 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 30 percent. For the season, Wood holds a 4.33 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and a 74/42 K/BB ratio across 97 2/3 innings of work.
