MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox are one of many teams who are “in on” Japanese left-hander Shota Imanaga.
Heyman reported that the Red Sox had also talked with Eduardo Rodriguez about coming back to Boston before the veteran signed with Arizona, but Boston preferred to wait on decisions from Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Jordan Montgomery before turning their attention to other starting pitchers. Boston has also been linked to right-hander Lucas Giolito, so it’s clear that they have a keen interest in upgrading their rotation this winter and are hopeful that one of Yamamoto or Montgomery will be a key part of that. If not, Imanaga figures to be one of their top targets after the 30-year-old lefty posted a 2.80 ERA and a 174/24 K/BB ratio over 148 innings last season in Japan.
