Cardinals signed LHP Nick Raquet to a minor league contract.
Raquet was a former 3rd round pick by the Nationals in the 2017 draft. He posted a 3.64 career minor league ERA in 306 1/3 innings (61 starts) but only advanced as far as High-A in his three seasons. When COVID shut down the 2020 minor league season, Raquet decided to go back to school, finish his degree, and get a job. However, in 2023 he signed up to play for the York Revolution in an independent league, posting a 3.71 ERA in 24 starts before latching on for 21 additional innings in the Dominican Winter League, where he posted a 3.00 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 23/8 K/BB ratio in 21 innings. He had been working out at Tread as he looked to get another big league shot, and it seems that will come with the Cardinals.
