Semien now has an RBI in back-to-back games, which he has done only one other time since July 8th. It’s been a tough season for Semien, but he continues to hit lead-off in a good lineup and should remain in fantasy lineups as well.

Hoerner hit a two-run homer off Hunter Dobbins to essentially put the game away in the top of the ninth. It was his first homer since way back on Apr. 21, when he hit his fourth in 23 games to start the year. It now seems pretty official that he’s turned things around after a two-month slump; he’s batting .432/.432/.545 in 10 games to start the second half, raising his OPS from .631 to .666.

Peterson gave up eight hard-hit balls but only three hits, allowing him to turn in a solid performance while striking out three and walking two. He moved to 3-1 with a 5.06 ERA in five starts for his new team. He’ll face the Yankees next time out, and while it’s definitely a good time to face the Bombers, he still doesn’t seem like an ideal streaming play.

This would have been a save chance for Webb, but the Cubs scored twice in the top of the ninth to up their lead from two runs to four. Webb still doesn’t have a save in the second half, but he is the clear favorite to claim them in Chicago right now. That might change if the Cubs can add a veteran reliever or two prior to the deadline.

Liberatore has given up 35 runs — 30 earned — in just 40 2/3 innings over his last nine starts, taking his ERA from 4.35 to 5.26. With the Cardinals currently possessing six starters for five spots, a bullpen demotion for Liberatore wouldn’t be a bad idea. However, it’s quite possible they’ll be trading one starter, most likely Dustin May, to alleviate the logjam. If Liberatore stays in the rotation, he’ll face the Blue Jays this weekend.

Dobbins did a little better than Liberatore, who allowed three runs in 3 2/3 innings. The Cardinals aren’t off again until Aug. 6, so there’s a pretty good chance Dobbins will get a start next time through the rotation. He could get a full-time spot if the Cardinals move a starter prior to the deadline.

It’s the first four-hit game and second four-RBI game for Bregman this year, but it wasn’t quite as encouraging as it sounds; the homer left his bat at a mere 97 mph and the two doubles were a 93-mph grounder and a 67-mph fly down the right field line. It was sufficient to bump his OPS up to .705. The last time he finished a game over .700 was on May 31, a day that also saw him hit a homer against the Cardinals.

Fermín typically comes off as a significantly less talented version of Luis Arraez, but every once in a while, the 27-year-old makes it worth wondering if there’s something more in store. Tonight’s homer was one of those moments, as it came with an 81.3-mph bat speed that he just doesn’t seem like he should be capable of. Fermín has been adequate in hitting .253/.317/.385 in his part-time role this year, but he might be a lot more interesting if he just started swinging hard all of the time.

Manager Tony Vitello believes Schmitt will miss some time with the injury. The good news is that the Giants are closer to getting Matt Chapman back from the injured list. However, that’s not expected to happen before the weekend. Christian Koss figures to start in Schmitt’s place Tuesday.

Chisholm was 1-for-12 with five strikeouts and no walks in his last three games entering play Monday. The 28-year-old infielder is having an off-year, but was active against the White Sox with two hits, two runs, two RBI and two stolen bases. He’s hitting .226 with a .713 OPS and 45 RBI.

Bednar’s save was his 21st of the season. A save situation arose in the ninth inning after Colson Montgomery reached on an error to make it a 9-5 game with runners on the corners and two outs. Bednar came in and struck out Chase Meidroth to end the game. He has a 2.40 ERA and only two blown save opportunities this year.
