Rays selected the contract of OF Jake Mangum from Triple-A Norfolk.
Tuesday is the deadline to add players to the 40-man roster or risk losing them to the Rule 5 draft, and the Rays won’t take the chance. Mangum performed well in his first year in the Tampa Bay system with an .800 OPS, 20 stolen bases and .317 average with Durham in 2024 over 104 games.

Griffin Jax was removed from Tuesday’s start against the Orioles after being hit by a comebacker.
Jax wound up leaving the contest following just two innings after being struck by a 107-mph comebacker in the lower back area from Leody Taveras. The positive sign is that he was able to finish out the inning before exiting. He’ll presumably undergo further evaluation and possibly imaging to determine the severity of the injury. He was charged with three runs — zero earned — and struck out three over his two innings of work. There should be an update after the contest on his status for his next start against the Tigers on Monday.
Cabrera's injury the latest blow to Cubs' rotation
James Schiano unpacks Edward Cabrera's trip to the injured list, evaluating his uneven production to this point and what his absence means for the Cubs' injury-riddled rotation.

Hunter Greene (elbow) completed a bullpen session on Tuesday.
Greene progressed to throwing off a bullpen mound for the first time since undergoing arthroscopic surgery to remove bone chips and loose bodies from his pitching elbow back in early March. The hard-throwing 26-year-old ace figures to ramp-up his throwing program over the next few weeks before starting a rehab assignment. It seems reason able that he’ll be ready to make his season debut sometime around the All-Star break in mid-July.
  • TB Right Fielder #40
Rays signed OF Austin Slater to a minor league contract.
Slater becomes the latest Mets castoff to land with the Rays following reliever Craig Kimbrel down to Tampa Bay. The 33-year-old veteran, who heads to his third organization since the start of this season, makes a ton of sense for the club’s platoon-heavy approach and could find his way to the big leagues as an injury replacement at some point this summer.
  • ATH Starting Pitcher #40
Luis Severino will have his next start pushed back to Friday’s series opener against the Yankees.
It sounds like a matchup-driven decision as the Athletics are handing the ball to a pair of left handers in top pitching prospect Gage Jump and veteran Jeffrey Springs for the final two games of their current series against the Mariners. Severino will take the ball on extra rest against his former organization later this week in West Sacramento.
  • FA Shortstop #14
    Tigers released SS Paul DeJong.
DeJong has been cut loose by the Tigers after suffering a season-ending leg injury earlier this month. The 32-year-old veteran shortstop has appeared in 925 career games over nine seasons in the majors since 2017.
  • CHC Relief Pitcher #50
Cubs re-signed LHP Ty Blach to a minor league contract.
Blach returns to Chicago on a new deal as emergency organizational depth after spending a couple days on the free agent wire. The 35-year-old journeyman tossed three scoreless frames during his lone appearance for the Cubs earlier this month.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #62
Logan Webb (knee) will start on Friday against the Rockies.
Giants manager Tony Vitello confirmed Webb will take the ball later this week in his return from the injured list after missing just over three weeks with right knee bursitis. The 29-year-old upper-echelon fantasy starter was hit hard in his first couple outings, but remains one of the more durable workhorses in the game. He’ll face a tough matchup right out of the gate at hitter-friendly Coors Field, but he’s worth the risk in nearly every fantasy formats imaginable.
  • COL 1st Baseman
TJ Rumfield (hand) is out of the lineup for Tuesday’s showdown against the Dodgers.
The positive news here is that X-rays came back negative for any fractures and Rumfield appears to have avoided serious injury after taking a pitch off his right hand during Monday’s series opener. The 26-year-old figures to get a couple extra days off to rest and recover this week. It’ll be Willi Castro taking over at first base on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.
  • PHI Designated Hitter #12
Kyle Schwarber is hitting leadoff on Tuesday against the Padres.
Phillies interim manager Don Mattingly has flipped Schwarber and Trea Turner on his lineup card. It’s something the club has done in the past and doesn’t carry massive fantasy ramifications. Schwarber launched his big league-leading 21st round-tripper during Monday’s series opener and has gone deep 10 times in 20 games since the start of May.
  • HOU Starting Pitcher #58
Hunter Brown (shoulder) will make his next minor league rehab start on Friday for Triple-A Sugar Land.
Brown will make at least one additional rehab start before returning to Houston’s rotation. The 27-year-old fantasy ace struck out five over two scoreless innings in his first rehab outing for Double-A Corpus Christi last weekend. The hope is that he’ll be ready to return by early June.
