Yonathan Perlaza was non-tendered by the Hanwha Eagles following his first season with the KBO club.
Tough business. Perlaza, a former Cubs minor leaguer, was the Eagles’ best hitter last season, coming in at .275/.364/.486 with 24 homers. He’s still just 26 and he had a .922 OPS in Triple-A in 2023, so he could receive interest from major league teams, presumably on a minor league deal. Other players non-tendered by Korean clubs this week include former big leaguers Eric Lauer, Roenis Elias, Jordan Balazovic and Brandon Waddell. Waddell was cut despite having gone 23-10 with a 2.98 ERA in 43 starts since 2022.

Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports that Rockies’ prospect Ethan Holliday will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a stress fracture in his left foot.
The fourth overall selection from the 2025 draft was hitting .262/.395/.557 with nine homers in 152 plate appearances at Low-A Fresno before suffering the injury. The 19-year-old phenom should be fully recovered and ready to go well in advance of spring training.

James Schiano discusses what the long-awaited return of right-handed pitcher Jared Jones means for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
  • CWS 1st Baseman #5
Muntetaka Murakami was removed from Friday night’s battle against the Tigers due to an apparent hamstring injury.
Murakami hustled to beat out a fielder’s choice in the third inning and came up grabbing at his right hamstring. He’ll head for further evaluation. Expect the White Sox to provide an update on his status as soon as more information becomes available.
  • AZ 3rd Baseman #28
Nolan Arenado (groin) remains out of the Diamondbacks’ starting lineup for Friday’s showdown against the Mariners.
It’s the second straight contest that the 35-year-old third baseman has missed since exiting Tuesday’s game with right groin tightness. The good news is that he’s improving and isn’t expected to require a trip to the injured list. He remains day-to-day.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #20
Nick Sogard was held out of the Red Sox’ starting lineup on Friday due to a nagging side issue.
Red Sox’ skipper noted that the issue wasn’t severe enough to warrant a trip to the injured list, but was bothering Sogard enough that they wanted to give him a day off. Isiah Kiner-Falefa is starting in his place at second base and batting seventh for the Red Sox on Friday night against the Guardians.
  • LAD Shortstop #6
Dodgers optioned INF/OF Hyeseong Kim to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The 27-year-old utilityman has been struggling badly at the plate over the past couple of weeks, so the Dodgers will give him some time in an everyday role at the Triple-A level to get himself back on track. Santiago Espinal returned from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take his place on the Dodgers’ active roster.
  • LAD 3rd Baseman #21
Dodgers selected the contract of INF Santiago Espinal from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Just one day after Espinal was sent outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City, he rejoins the Dodgers to replace the slumping Hyeseong Kim. Espinal will once again serve in a reserve infielder role and can be ignored for fantasy purposes.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #48
Tigers transferred LHP Brant Hurter to the 60-day injured list.
Hurter landed on the injured list last week due to lumbar spine inflammation and now it looks like he’s going to be shelved for much longer than originally anticipated. Beau Brieske was activated from the 60-day injured list on Friday to take his spot on the club’s 40-man roster.
  • DET Relief Pitcher #4
Tigers activated RHP Beau Brieske from the 60-day injured list.
Brieske had been sidelined since late in spring training due to a left adductor strain. He’ll give a floundering Tigers’ bullpen another fresh arm for their weekend series against the White Sox in Chicago.
  • DET Starting Pitcher #12
Tigers placed RHP Casey Mize on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to May 28, with right adductor inflammation.
The Tigers had been hopeful that Mize would be able to avoid a return trip to the injured list after leaving Wednesday’s start with another groin issue, but they’ll take the cautious approach and sit him down to make sure it heals properly. Beau Brieske was activated from the 60-day injured list to take his place on the active roster on Friday.
  • SF Right Fielder #51
Giants activated OF Jung Hoo Lee from the 10-day injured list.
The 27-year-old outfielder has been shelved since May 22 due to a back strain. He’s starting in right field and batting sixth for the Giants for Friday’s series opener against the Rockies in Colorado.
