Ariel Jurado has signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Samsung Lions in the Korea Baseball Organization.
The 28-year-old hurler has spent the previous two seasons in Korea as well with the Kiwoom Heroes, most recently posting a 3.36 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and a 169/32 K/BB ratio across 190 1/3 innings in his 30 starts during the 2024 season. Jurado hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since the pandemic-truncated 2020 campaign.

Reds recalled OF Noelvi Marte from Triple-A Louisville.
Marte has crushed Triple-A pitching since being demoted, hitting .369/.409/.575 in 176 plate appearances with eight home runs and nine steals. Yes, he had struggled with the Reds to begin the year, but it was only 31 plate appearances over 11 games. This is still a 24-year-old who hit 14 home runs and stole 10 bases in 90 games last year while hitting .263. Marte has been playing center field in the minors and is coming up for TJ Friedl, so we have to assume the Reds are going to give him a look in center field. He deserves to be added in all formats based on what he showed last year.
Rays need to prove they are legit AL contenders
CC Sabathia and Ahmed Fareed name two teams that need to show them something including the Tampa Bay Rays and Washington Nationals.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #56
Mets recalled RHP Joey Gerber from Triple-A Syracuse
The Mets need a fresh arm in the bullpen, so Gerber will get the call as a short-term addition. He could head back to the minors as soon as Kodai Senga (back) rejoins the rotation at the beginning of next week.
  • NYM Starting Pitcher #21
Mets optioned RHP Jonah Tong to Triple-A Syracuse
Tong had two good outings after first being called up from Triple-A, but he really struggled on Tuesday, allowing five runs (four earned) in 3 1/3 innings against the Mariners. The 22-year-old struggled with walks in Triple-A this year and also walked seven batters in 10 innings since being called up. He’ll continue to work on his command down in Triple-A, with the Mets likely getting Kodai Senga (back) back in the rotation next week.
  • DET Shortstop #7
Kevin McGonigle is starting at shortstop and batting second on Wednesday against the Rays.
McGonigle had a day off on Tuesday but will be right back in the lineup today. The rookie took a bit of a step back in May but still hit .238 with 16 runs scored, seven steals, and an 18/16 K/BB ratio in 27 games.
  • TB 2nd Baseman #15
Ben Williamson is starting at shortstop and batting sixth against the Tigers on Wednesday.
Taylor Walls left yesterday‘s game with hamstring tightness, so the Rays will give him a day off and let Williamson start at shortstop. Walls is allegedly available off the bench tonight, so this might be just a one game situation with Williamson as the starting shortstop.
  • BOS 3rd Baseman #20
Red Sox placed INF/OF Nick Sogard on the 10-day injured list with right side soreness.
Sogard apparently began feeling the soreness over the weekend and then also didn’t play on Tuesday against the Orioles. He’ll be out for at least two weeks as he tries to get healthy.
  • BOS 2nd Baseman #48
Red Sox are promoting 2B/3B Anthony Seigler from Triple-A Worcester, according to Tommy Cassell, who covers the Triple-A team.
Seigler was the third person who came to the Red Sox in the Kyle Harrison trade, along with Caleb Durbin and Andruw Monasterio. Seigler is hitting .298 with three home runs and 21 RBI in 104 at-bats for Triple-A Worcester this season but hit .344 in May. He makes a ton of contact and has some experience as a catcher but has only played second and third base this season, so it remains to be seen what his role will be in Boston.
  • TB Middle Reliever
Rays optioned RHP Trevor Martin to Triple-A Durham.
Martin is the unfortunate casualty of an overworked bullpen. The right-hander threw three innings on Monday, and then the Rays needed to use the majority of their other fresh relievers on Tuesday after Steven Matz’s short start, so they need to add more fresh arms. Martin should be back up in short order.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #59
Rays recalled RHP Mason Englert from Triple-A Durham.
The 26-year-old has a 5.63 ERA in 16 innings for the Rays this season. He’ll be up to give them a fresh arm in the bullpen after Steven Matz’s short outing on Tuesday.
  • AZ Relief Pitcher #33
A.J. Puk (elbow) allowed one hit in a scoreless inning for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday.
He also struck out one while throwing five of his eight pitches for strikes. He sat 95.1 mph on his fastball and topped out at 95.6 mph. He averaged 96.4 mph last season, so the velocity is down, but this was his first rehab outing. Also, the narrow gap between his fastest pitch and his average velocity suggests that Puk was not trying to rear back and let it fly in this first appearance. The 31-year-old will likely need a couple more weeks before he becomes an option in Arizona, but he could quickly become a late-inning complement to Paul Sewald when left-handed hitters are due up.
